Newbie Question: Building a rep with the riff-raff

I have been playing for a few days. What a great game. The best I've seen in a long while. Maybe it's too early in the game to be asking this (I've only just completed mission 3), but it seems like there is no way to avoid being hated by rogues, outcasts, hackers and whatnot. The missions and jobs seem to pull you in that direction.. Or am I missing something? It's gotten to the point where I can't go *anywhere* without being attacked. I'd like to buy a freighter and make few extra bucks, but I wouldn't last a minute in an old rhino with my reputation. Any suggestions? Or will things reveal themselves later on? I've tried attacking a few freighters (Read: Stupidest death thread..) but that didn't end well...

Thanks.

After mission 1, I got friendly with the rogues and outcasts (Hackers wernt on the list yet), All I did was hang around west point and shot everything that came in. Soon got green with the rogues and surprisingly the Navy and LSF were still neutral.

Try hanging around the silverton field in Colorado and killing Xenos. Lots and lots of Xenos. In between fights shoot the asteroids for silver which u can sell for 630 on Manhatten. A few hours of this and you'll have lots of silver and be neutral or friendly with most factions. (Except Xenos).

to add to that, you must not take MISSIONs from anyone. You have to kill Xenos on your accord and live on the junk you salvage or the silver from some of the asteroids you can shoot at. When you take a mission from a corporation, police or military, your reputation becomes affected. i did that to get neutral with the Rogues to buy a Dagger. It was worth it because the Dagger is the best looking ship in the game. and seeing one in the hanger closeup proves it.

Then I made an interesting career path. With the Dagger, I only accepted military and police missions, so I can use the Dagger to kill pirates. But I don't accept taking missions from corporations. If you accept missions from corporations your rep with the Junkers will sour. Keeping myself neutral with the Junkers was intentional because I intended to get a Legionaire, which is on a Junkers base.

After I got the Legionaire, I take only missions from IMG bases against Corsairs. Keeping the enemy only as the Corsairs, it keeps the Bundswehr and the Hessions neutral to slight green. When I need a new ship, I go to Rhineland and pick up Stilleto from the Bund, and continue fighting only the Corsairs, and when the money is right, pick up a Sabre from the Hessians.

When you're rep is 2 squares less than neutral or better you can get missions for Junkers. Your rep with them, rogues, corsairs and outcasts will all go up a lot and police only go down a bit, or none at all if you do xenos killing missions.

I got the Dagger this way after five or six missions from rochester. The only faction who won't like you are Hogosha, but they are enemies with xenos, so it can all work out in the end. Using this method I got neutral to everyone (except xenos) throughout single player and multi as well. Bundschuch like xenos though but you can get everyone neutral before they go red.
