It only uses official jumpgates when it makes routes, which may be a problem and makes it useless in the outer systems. It also means to takes a lot longer than a human would in some cases. On the plus side, sticking to the official routes keeps you away from the nastier criminals, which is a good thing until yo get yourself a decent ship.

Also it can navigate through jumpgates you dont know about yet, which is odd to say the least.

It can navigate those jumpgates you dont know about cuz the passwords are prodrammed into your ship. Remember the first part of the SP campaign?
I also wish they had made an option for turning the jump hole WPs on or off. It would make it easier on pirates who really want to pirate correctly like the NPCs do.

not so good.

in sp, route to tokyo from new berlin, will not take you through sigma 13, which is the shorter route..

It's great if you're on good terms with the cops and bad terms with pirates. It is 100% useless if you're on good terms with pirates and bad terms with cops. They should have a second mode--"best way smuggler mode" that uses asteroid fields and jump holes (that you've discovered) instead of trade lanes and jumpgates. As is, there is no way to set a series of waypoints through several systems using jump holes instead of jumpgates.

I think it would be greatly improved if the best path feature didn't erase previously programmed points. At least let me set bases, jump holes, and wrecks as manual nav points.

I hate it that I have to fly to a point near my destination, and then select that destination as a target. I really hate it when I hit best path by accident, and the last ten carefully selected points are blown away with the "no best path" message!
