If you wanted to fill up your cargo hold from mining though, you'd have to be out there for a long time, if you have a decent ship, and most fields just have scrap metal and water, some have niobium, gold and diamonds but not many....

Here's what i usually do:

1. Leave manhattan and head straight for Rochester Base, ignoring Rogues
2. Buy 2 Barragers
3. Jump to Colorado and head to the Copperton Asteroid Field
4. Mine Copper and sell to Publeo for 400 credits a pop.
5. Bonus: You get to kill a arseload of Xenos which everyone hates.

You can also get Silver from the Silverton Field, but it takes longer, more Xenos and you have to fly back to manhattan to sell for 630 a pop. I do copper cause while individually cheaper, you make more money cause you spend less time mining and transporting.

I usually go to the BMM Mining Field in Dublin or to the Niobium Field near Falkland Base in Tau-37 (have fun blasting Outcasts) They have high drop rates.

When mining i usually use my turret, a fast Skyblast B.
