If the topic was started truly just for asking, then yes, we HAVE the right (and the need) to disrespect the author for not using the search function which, BTW, works perfectly. This does not mean that we have a right to ruin the entire topic, or attack the author, it means that we have a NEED to do this in order to set an example, not to target the individual just for the sake of it.
If, on the other hand, the author wanted "to be seen", to contibute by posting a topic of his own in order to induce other peoples' reactions, then he/she should've picked a better (previously uncovered) subject.
Anyone offended by my opinion/post most likely did not understand it in full.

Yep, maybe it has been discussed to death, but those discussions are handy for noobs, offering a guiding light through the darkness of the (partially) uncharted wilderness that is the sirius system. It's the sort of thing that the rumours in the game could have (should have?) told us. How else can we find out what to aspire to?
A sticky thread would definitely help, but so would forcing noobs to read the sticky 'first time poster?' thread, or forcing them to type out 'I will search the existing threads before starting a new one' ten times before letting them register.
(Don't blast me because the search wasn't always here either. It's there now and that's what counts.)

On the other hand, who could stand to read an eight page thread on what's the best ship? Not me. Maybe you should leave the noobs to their noob discussions and use your more forum-experienced eyes to avoid such threads, which usually offer subtle clues in the topic name (like 'best ship?').
