Are "YOU" still playing Freelancer?

After going through the all 13 missions of the singleplayer campain, got to Level 30 then got me a Sabre then a Titan armed it to the teeth and so forth and got a bit bored.

If it wasnt for my sucky internet connection I would probably be playing Freelancer on the Internet instead of posting comments on this forum.

Also the release of games such as "Enter the Matrix" and "Vice City"(On P.C) have taken me away from Freelancer.

So Are you still playing Freelancer?!?

online yes, I'm currently getting a server full of my own characters.

1. A money maker: Eagle, was a Sabre but changed for the better , mission based for Outcasts quickest method. AVG 140k per 10 mins mission
2. Fleet of escort Eagles, armed to the teeth in various systems so can quicky help where needed.
3. Fleet of heavy fighters Hammerhead / Valkyrie casue I like them
4. Some of the light fighters when I get around to them

I've got a bad wrist so I cant play much of vice city. After 30 min my wrist starts burning from an inflamed calcium deposit. :
But I can still play FL, and now some good mods are comming out so it gives me something to play. Pretty cool toys from new engines, power plants, tractor beams, scanners...it really improved the replayability of the game.

I stopped playing it for about a week a month or so ago, but decided, even though my net connection is really bad, to give multiplayer a go.

And to my surprise it worked well, ok it does lag a little in combat but not too much, once you find a good server its fine. I am getting a little bit bored of multiplayer now though when i reach lvl 38, so i normally start all over again.

Below is my computer spec, and if it works on this then it will work on anything , well ok not anything, but you get the point:

AMD 650 Mhz
256 Mb Ram
Voodoo 3 PCI 2000
56k AOL net connection

I have reached level 38 after 70 hours of play single player but have not finished exploring, so I am doing small trade runs, shooting xenos to get the outcasts neutral and heading down to the corsair systems to do a spot of nomad hunting.

The friends I play fortnightly on a LAN with have just picked up FL so at 6 hours a fortnight this should keep us going till the end of the year.

You know I still play but my system is down so no FL for a while. Got the screen of death the other day after a storm.

Question Ping, how do you have a fleet of ships? Is there a mod I missed for owning more than one ship at a time?

I like the HF's did you see the question on what you prefer flying? I actually like the freighters and more now with the better freighter mods.

I hook up with people online who live for combat and little else, and let them do the dirty work. Then I split the profits with them when they do a good job and keep my ship in one piece and cargo intact. I guess I am more about trading than fighting these days.

Don't think for a minute though that an old freighter captain is easy prey as many a ship has gone down in flames with a load of screemers up it's pipe and mines down their hatches. Plus I usually have "friends" hanging around with large ships and guns just in case there are a lot of trouble makers.

Just some thoughts from the edge of space!

I've moved to EvE Online. I'm not going to wait for mods or patches on Freelancer. It's a great game but it's like Colgate. Once you squeezed the life out of the tube, there is nothing there anymore.

If Freelancer is a mighty hill, EvE Online is Mt. Everest. The ability to interact with your much vaster universe is much greater. You can set up corporations, build factories, factories that build ships to sell to people, sell stock, appoint factory managers, get insurance (EvE does not resurrect you and your ship for free). Oh yes, the bounties. If you see a bounty on a character, that character isn't an NPC. It's usually another player that other players have a grudge against. If you really don't like some people, put a bounty on their heads. If you're a player pirate attacking other players for loot, expect players to put a bounty on you.

A friend had to make 28 system jumps just to transverse from Minmatar territory to Amarr territory. **28** system jumps. And Minmatar is the closest nation to Amarr.

I'm in the process of exploring every corner of sirius at the moment. I'm going back to malta just because i really liked that system somehow. Well.. dunno what i'll be doing after that. Trademissions bore me already.. might try some mp.

Freelancer fizzled out for me a while ago, but I still got my monies worth :-)

After the completing the SP plot misisons, I began trading and exploring. Saw and explored every system, got the ship I always wanted, armed with the meaty L10 weapons and shield I had long desired :-) Oh, and dinged 38 (not that that is hard of course :-). All in all, just shy of 40 hours worth of playing in total, which is more than I get from most games.

Right now, I'm just aiting patiently for Half-Life 2 to come out!

@pressgod there's 12 character slots per server, so you just need one wealthy character to fund the rest.

Win XP says "occasionally" in the Add/Remove dialogue...
...about 10 hrs per week.

I haven't played Freelancer for a few weeks now. I pretty much discovered everything there was and started to lose interest. Further there have been some more great games that asked for my attention: Black Hawk Down, Mafia and right now: the awesome GTA Vice City.

Freelancer was great as long as there was new stuff to find and to do. But it's time to thank this great game and move on... until there is gonna be a mod released that actually is worth playing for me.

p.s.: i haven't been in the forums for a few weeks either, but guess what: it is as if i left only yesterday. The same questions, the same rants and complains. Nothing has changed. Guess you lose interest in forums as well when there is nothing new to discover and to do either.

Ah, yes, the infamous Vice City has pulled me away from Freelancer, as well. But I still play whenever I'm in the mood for it.
