Weapons not locking

I've got some new weapons that I've looted, but for some reason they're not locking in automatically. Could it be because my ship can't accept them or is there just some simple procedure for locking non-bought weapons?

1. you can only mount weapons while docked
2. you cant mount weapons on your ship, if it doesnt have a free slot and has the same or higher level of weapons slot.

My ship has three free slots for the two weapons in question, and the weapons are both under the maximum level for those slots.

Its in the manual, but theres a small button on the weapon in your inventory. If its blue, click it and the weapon will mount. If its grey, the weapon cant be mounted for some reason.
