I think what is happening here is ppl forget to use the thrusters to the first gate then engage the cruise engines. I beat him with my drom. with my hull full of gold, first try. It also helps to swing around a bit near the end of the course so you make the gates. If you just pay attention to the gates and ignore him and the weapons platforms you'll win.

The first time I ever tried the race I had some problems, but once I used my thrusters to get to gate one and then immediatly engage cruise it was a snap to win. I was almost neck and neck with him the whole way....then he misses a gate and you fly to victory!

Have flown it in both a Cylsdale and a Dromerdary and won handily. Both are fairly nimble freighter and can handle the race just fine.

Good to see there are a lot of freighter jockeys out there just like me.

I have flow all of the freighters and would say as far as manuverability they are from top best to bottom worst.

Drommedary, Drone, Mule, Rhino, Clydesdale, these 3 are about the same but the Mule is probably a little more manuverable but at a cargo space loss vs the Clydesdale so I would take the Clydesdale over the other 2 after all it is a freighter and carring goods is what they are supposed to do.

Finally the flying brick the Humpback, a good hauler but you better not need to move out of your own way as it will even miss the docking rings and jump gates from time to time.

Just some thoughts from the edge of space!

I won with my Corellian Corvette with no speed mods. I actually had 600 before and I was constantly overshooting. I don't see how you could win with anything over 300 cruise speed.

I beat Hovis in a Clydesdale in about 3-4 attempts. The mission after that, escorting Quintane, appears too much for the Clydesdale to handle. I had to reload a saved game at the Essex and get a Crusader. I've just beaten Hovis with the crusader, now I face the dreaded Quintane escort mission, I hope I can keep from putting my foot through my monitor before I beat this part. I sure didn't want to give up that Clydesdale, that ship made me a lot of money! Maybe I can find another after the Quintane mission.
