Freelancer is the best game I''ve ever played but what would

No criticism from me of this excellent game but what additional features would you like to see? Here's where the list starts...

1/. For me - the ability to 'film' a mission and then play it back from different perspectives.

2/. Many different 'types' of mission - not just 'clear areas'. 'destroy base' or 'assassinate/arrest criminal. I'd like to see, say, more escort duties, more battleship destructs, more 'disrupt trade lanes between x and z' etc

3/. Slightly fewer respawning NPC attacks.

4/. ...?

I agree on all points, and would also like to see the following:

Manually controlled rolling, as described in the forum above. I like the interface, but I think that they took a little bit too much away from the pilot.

More hotkeys for the radar filters. I don't like flying in autopilot, and this is one of the reasons I am forced to relinquish control.

Some way to disable the conventional drives competely! I never use them and I'm getting tired of turning them off every time I leave a base, jumpgate / hole, or trade lane. It baffles me that the ship needs to slow down while the cruise engines charge. Disabling the thruster is one thing, but slowing to a crawl is murder.

EDIT: I almost forgot my number one pet peeve: Fix the AI so that those massive freighters with drunken pilots don't block the jump gate for two minutes! Trade runs take a long time already, waiting for these knuckleheads while there's pirates trying to kill you, or while sitting on perishables is torture.

I would really like to see a larger universe with more systems to visit. There just isn't enough. May add another 20, 30, 40 50.... Granted, the graphics, programming, disk space requirements etc... (and of course the story line) prevent such but it would be great to see a much larger universe similar (but obviously smaller) to that of Elite. The great thing about Elite was the vast number of systems one could visit although there was only one station per system. DOn't get me wrong, I don't think Freelancer needs 8 galaxies with thousands of systems a piece, but it would be nice to have 100 or so systems to visit.

Barring a larger universe I would ask for some sort of system development tool. I know shsan is working on a system editor (which I look forward to using) but I would have loved it if DA had provided one with the game.

EDIT: I just went to the Editing Utilities Forum and it seems shsan's System Editor is available already. See his thread.

How about obeying the general laws of physics.

Seeing as we are flying through a vacuum, why are the ships designed and controlled as if they are flying through an atmosphere? If we switch off our engines, we should continue to head in whatever direction we were flying until we counter the inertia.
So, theoretically, we could engage cruise engines, catch up to a slower ship, disable engine while still travelling at top speed, pivot the ship and do a strafing run down the side of the target. (Babylon 5 fans will be familiar with this tactic)
Also, being in a vacuum, we shouldnt be able to hear explosions, weapons impacting our shields, or other peoples engines.

Remember, a vacuum is as empty as Microsofts "got it right first time" pile.

One more thing;

Upgrade the radar system. Even the old Elite radar worked better for determining enemy positions.

In my opinion the levls should go higher than 38, and in those higher levels you could purchase a base or some such, get some men, start a whole faction yourself, even get alliances etc, but after getting so far in multiplayer, i cant really find much else to do.

I think the SP campaign really needs to be changed so you need to go up 2-3 levels before Juni bugs you to continue with the plot. As it is now I finish a mission and before I can leave the station I advance in level and bam...Juni is magically transported a system away and is telling me to come do a mission. This is just silly. It leaves you no time to really explore (which is probably the best feature of the game). It really drives me crazy. By the time I do finish the SP campaign I have so much money that I jump from lvl 18 to 30+ instantly.

Is this freelancer or is it just a space shooter? It seems to me from the design of the plot that they wanted it to be just a space shooter.

Maybe its me...but don't you guys find that annoying?

1 thing, diffrent/more bar missions =D
Battleship killing (mabye a battleship captain went rouge and you have to stop him)

Helping to evacuate a sation or ship maybe?

Seaching for lost ships? navy ships the went missing? then (if he was taken by pirates) maybe going to get him/her back?

Or mabye just a simple cargo run for somone? they want you to take certen cargo to a place for them?

any my personal fav idea..

Having to track down a wanted man or drug dealer that somone wants to contact, and i mean TRACK DOWN, they give you his last known place maybe, you go there ask about find the next place...

^^
my ideas i know M$ prob aint going to take notice of them, but you never know, maybe a MODer can make them

I know this is a little [ALOT off topic but the thing about wanting to film missions reminded me... How do you take screenshots in Freelancer??? I've missed some pretty nice opporotunities...

Back so soon???? Well I am, I read the post about your cloaking wish, it's possible, I recently modded my Freelancer myself so I could buy the Cloaking Devices at Manhattan, the only problem is that since you cant dump equipment in mid-flight you cant uncloak, and I haven't figured out how to, if its possible, deactivate the Cloak so it poses a problem as to how useful it really is.... If anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate if they let me know....

You already can turn off engines and coast - try the "z" key. Unfortunately, inexplicably, the game developers put _drag_ into the game so you actually slow down!!!

As has been mentioned, a *proper* spacial radar (the proper name escapes me ;-), like Elite, Privateer II and most others had.

A dynamic trade system would go down very well indeed, I think. Coupled with this the (also previosuly mentioned) ability to hire other ships; either wingman, or cargo vessels, etc.

Some more varied and details missions; for example, Privateer II had missions where you had to follow clues, solve the odd puzzle or two to, say, rescue someone who had been kidnapped.

The ability to take on more than one mission at a time.

Privateer II allowed you to intercept and respond to requests for help, and therefore take impromptue missions while actually in space. This would rock in Freelancer!
