Condensation stripes in space?

First things first, great game thankyou DA.

Why are there condensation stripes (correct english?) in space? I thought you had to be inside an athmosphere to get those. Is it something else? Looks cool though.

And another one while I'm at it. The methane clouds you have to fly through during one of the missions. How is that possible in space?

Could someone please enlighten me

What do you mean by condensation strips?

Do you mean the trails from wing tips. In a nebula put it down to gas, outside solar wind.

You usually get one stripe/strand of smoke from each wingtip. Maybe they only come when you are turning. When you are in cruise speed it comes from the whole ship.

You're thinking too hard. Just file this in the "hmmmm...whatever" folder right next to why:
*Ships in outer space need continual thrust to maintain a constant velocity.
*Laser beams travel at 750 m/s, not the speed of light.
*Ships can traverse entire solar systems in minutes (even without using trade lanes), which means that they're traveling close to the speed of light themselves.
*They can mount defensive shields on tiny little fighters but not giant battleships.
*Characters never have to pee, poop, eat, or sleep.
*A pilot will report that life support has failed and he can't breathe, and will then fly around just fine for 15 minutes if you don't shoot him any more.

Those trails are there so that when you use "Kill Engine" you can see what direction you are rotating. When "Kill Engine" is active, your ship continues at the same speed and in the same direction no matter what you do with the mouse. The mouse only changes your orientation within that trajectory. No trails, no indication of orientation change.

Actually to traverse solar systems in mere minutes, they are exceeding light speed. The Earth, relatively close to its sun, is a whopping 8 minutes away from the sun AT light speed. So therefore, they are at least exceeding it by a small margin.

Yes, that was a nitpick. I wholeheartedly admit to it. But I agree, there are quite a few things you mush simply ignore. Good game though.

this chick walks up to me and she's like, "hey, aren't you that guy" and I'm like, "yeah whatever"

Why do ships trail flame and blow up in fireballs with no air? Who gives a @#$*?

Why do ships in outer space burn? Probably because they've got massive amounts of compressed oxygen onboard, which fuels those fires as it escapes.

The wing tip trails could be manuvering thrusters, in space the ship has to be covered in small propellant nozzles, the ones mounted on the tips of the wings are largest and furthest away from the main fuselage, this makes them more effective for manuvering the ship.

perhaps we should write a nice long list of these......
like why does your ship shrink as you enter docking mode, you line up outside the bay door and your ship just about fits in, then the docking cut-scene starts and the landing bay seems relatively huge!!
or how come badly damaged ships say they're giving up and buzzing out but instead fly back to the same combat hot spot ten minutes later!!
Personally i don't care

Personally, my biggest gripe are planets the size of office buildings and capitil ships the size of buses.

My biggest nitpick is how the damn bases right...like the station.. are about the size of 2, maybe 3 damn fighters.. and i ask u... how the hell is there all that room for a ship dealer AND equipment dealer.. which if you've seen them the places look like the size of friggin central park... and yet they still cant forget about the bars now can they? the physics of this game.. yes in a way kinda suck.. i mean come on.. at least if it were to be realistic they could ditch the equip. and ship dealers on the stations/battleships.. the bar i can see cuz every1 needs to drink

hm... also, you guys should read the info card for a base. See how many people it says are permanent residents.....

Freespace, XWA, and Tachyon The Fringe are the only games, recently, that made bases and capitol ships friggin huge.
