Tractor beam failure and switching mounted items

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. What influences the tractor beam and what would cause it to fail? After I complete a job I go to the nearest loot, press B and use the tractor beam to gather as much loot as I can. I go to the site of some more loot and the tractor beam fails. I am not positive, but I think I have noticed that I had free cargo space when the failure occurs. Any way around this?

2. How can I switch guns, shield generators, etc? I have acquired a gun while looting and want to dismount one gun and mount the new gun. I can't seem to get it right. Anybody know?

Tractor beam failures are caused by your cargo bay being full or if you have a full compliment of Nanobots/Shield Bats. If you would like to pick up a particular cargo from the area you must jettison something and then DON'T hit the B button but rather select the item in the target reticule, and only beam it in "Shift B".

To change out your weapons you must be at a base or planet and go to the merchant. When you look at your loadout you will see a small box in the upper LH corner of the weapon Icon. Click on it an it will "dismount". Now you have a space clear to mount a new weapon select it and click the same box. You will see it close and hear the computer say "Mounted" LOL.

One more thing you can not mount a weapon of a higher grade on a lower grade platform IE: a level 5 gun on a lvl 3 position on your ship. Good flying and be careful out there. Hope this helps.

Just to pick nits, you don't have to go to the equipment dealer to switch weapons - you can do it from the Inventory menu (F7) on any base screen.
