Longevity

Why oh why did Microsoft decide to make the money you must earn to trigger story missions/level up such miniscule amounts!?

For example. You complete mission 1, and Juni tells you to spread your wings in the New York system, but before you can have a good fly around, and explore, she wants to meet you again for mission 2. One mission, or a trade run even in a small fighter is enough. Surely, it would have been much better to set the money you had to earn to trigger this event to a much higher value, stopping people from just barging through the main plot, and increasing the longevity of the game.

After completing mission 1, I fully explored the New York System before taking the second story mission (the cardamine in that derelict gave my cash a 30k boost). Now, after completing this mission, I want to explore the rest of Liberty Space before taking story mission 3. But after docking at BS Missouri and watching the post mission 2 cutscene, JUST BUYING some h-fuel (how can this increase my net worth?) has triggered Juni to contact me again for mission 3. This is taking the piss. Like forcing me to rush through the main story missions.

So, now I'm going to have to explore the rest of Liberty space, afraid to trade, and purposely trying to waste cash, so that when I eventually do mission 3, I wont hop up several levels because of the cash I earned in the meanwhile.

I understand that some people will just want to charge through the story missions and then never play the game again, but for hardcore gamers like myself, almost forcing you to fleet through such a well crafted and complex universe seems such a waste of a game.

Ignore Juni.

That's not the point !

Exploring the Colorado system I have a load of annoying waypoints directing me back to the New York system to meet Juni. Really annoying.

So, if my next level up is achieved by doing mission 3 (level 6), and I make loads of cash in the meanwhile, will I shoot up several levels after doing mission 3? Or will the next level requirements be higher to take into account the cash I have when reaching level 6?

Remember, in FL, microsoft, managed to smuggle a Bill Gates clone into Liberty sleeper ship. And this guy, being Bill gates himself, was founder of the company that provides the Nav Map system, which everybody use.

As we all know from histroy, the first version of window was..buggy.. So is this one..

There is also a Linux based Nav Map system out there that you have to look for. It's better , faster, customizable and free. But you have to look for it.

Having said that, I have to admit I use Xp in the office, and Win98se at home..

if you went the freighter route you can just make cargo runs finding out about the world around you and getting filthly rich, till you want to do the mission.

DE, you might think it, but you're simply not funny in the slightest!

If you want to just explore and such, why not start FLserver on your machine and set for no internet access and max players to 1, even give it a password if paranoid. Then connect to your own server via the multi-player/LAN connection. You can then enjoy the openness of multiplayer world without worrying that you have a dial-up connection. This works even with my puny machine without any noticible degradation to the game.

Btw if u set your own waypoints it will ignore Juni's till u reach ur final destination. And you could ignore Juni with no actual problems. But I really liked the main story the most so I actually rushed to the campaign missions as soon as i could afford the best buyable hardware.

CupidStunt,

During SP storyline you will not "jump past" levels. Every second level is mission dependent, and the levels inbetween are money dependent.

Further, it seems that advancement to money dependent levels are not based on your absolute value but on your relative value improvement since last mission. So you can earn a million after mission 1, but after mission 2 you will still have to earn a little more to advance to the next level.

The above is only true during the mission storyline. Afterwards, level advancement is purely based on absolute player value, and you may end up jumping 10 or more levels as soon as you have played your last mission. So if you want the full joy of advancing slowly through levels after the storyline and slowly being able to buy new stuff, you may want to decrease your player value prior to the last mission.

I see !

So, I'll have to buy a freighter, fill it up with cardamine, and go dump it all in space prior to doing the final mission !

They really should have made levelling up a far more time consuming effort, to give the game more longevity. Though I suppose that would have stopped kids who just wanna finish the story missions in a few days, then start on another game less likely to play it!

Cupid, if you want to explore and ignore Juni then just hit the delete all waypoint key when at the base her crap will disappear and you can plug in your own. When you complete YOUR mission, her stuff will come back, but then wash, rinse, repeat.

I went for the trade route way longer than most. I bought the Rhino freighter in liberty did some runs from Planet Pittsburg to New York a few times to build up my cash. I stayed away from the bar missions but went there to get information and work on my rep.

Some people say it is a waste of money to do so as your rep changes so much during the SP mission, but in order to get the ship I wanted I had to do it that way. I do agree with you about how easy it is to level up but remember the "average" player only spends a few hours on a game and does't want something that takes months to get through. I think most players today have an arcade mentality in that it is right here right now kind of game play.

Now before I get flammed on this let me say there is nothing wrong with that if that is the type of play you are looking for or enjoy. Hey different strokes for different folks. But I personally like to take my time and as I have been accused of before be obsessive over the details of all the aspects in the game.

I really enjoy this game even after the SP and sometimes the MP is fun if you are on the right server. What ever floats your boat is ok by me.

Just some thoughts from the edge of space.

I recall one or two missions? submissions? where you are not given the chance to "spread your wings" around the time when the two Rheinland agents come a'nocking on Tobias's door.
Anyway, you've usually got the option to click "Decline" when the breifing comes up, which has the advantage that you get to see Juni get royally pi#^ed when she's waiting on your agenda for once

Even a kick up the pants is a step forwards...
