when can you "do your own thing?"

I'm replaying the campaign, and I'm trying to take advantage of the "endless possibilities", but so far after completing that first "have-to-meet-Jun'ko" mission, I still can't leave the New York system. Why not? I bought the Rhino, so it should have the jump capabilities, right? Anyone know what you have to do to be able to fly anywhere in the Universe? Thanks, and happy gaming. Hope to see you online

I thought you were re playing the campaign; if this is so you should know that you have to follow the story line missions until the end, when you are free to go wherever you please. And no, you can't leave the New York system until you are allowed to by Juni. Then again, you can always start your own locked MP server and play on it yourself.

Well, I guess replaying the campaign was a poor choice of words, what I meant was replayinmg the single player game to see all the stuff that is not in the campaign, but it looks like you have to follow the campaign missions to get out of each system. At least until a certain point, I haven't found out exactly when or where yet.

you have to kep following the story line all the way through. There is no single point anywhere in the middle where you can just decide to stop doing the missions, because you won't be able to progress. So you really are always forced to complete the whole campaign before you can start freely exploring.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. And which I probably am, but I do remember the option of declining Juni's missions, what if you actually do this?

"Yeah hello[! I'd like to report this taxi driver.."
"And his name is?"
"Jam.. the symbol for Boron.. and a weird q surrounded by dots.."
"You sure it was Boron and not manganese?"
"Ofcourse I'm sure, I had the periodic chart with me at the time.." -.-

yes, but when you decline her missinos, she just says "i'll give you time to think it over" or something like that. You'll still have to do the mission eventualy, and in the meantime, you won't be able to progress.

And after a certian point, it will force you to go back, see Juni and continue the story.

Damn, is there a point to playing after the campaign? Does the story end altogether? If you can't destroy stations or capital ships, wheres the fun in that? I guess I'm looking for more than Digital Anvil had me thinking this game was. Its just a space sim with dog fights after the campaign is done. Oh well, "Star Wars Galaxies" is coming out soon, and THAT will be everything Freelancer had promised in a single player game.

Actually she says: "I'll be here for a while, in case you change your mind".

Satellite:

In the downloads section is a mod that will "unlock" SP to let you do your own thing just as you desire. This is perhaps the easiest way to get around the missions.

Also there are other mods to let you destroy battleships and stations. Enjoy

Thanks Captain Flint, that is most helpful. I can't wait to destroy some capital ships!
