Why didn''t DA.........

....Include "Neural Net" upgrades, and create the neural net system the way it originally was?

.....include more upgrades! What happened to Tungsten Armor.. ITTS upgrades, scanner upgrades, cargo expansion slots, autofire turret computers, RADAR upgrades, Maneuvering thruster upgrades... etc etc etc?

......include hiring of wingmen, freighters ?

.......include more commodities to trade?

........include the HAIL option to ask for help, taunt enemies, permission to do X or Y.. etc

.........include a better news system, that as players here begged, report extreme activity.. while changing reputation/politics of the game ?

..........include more rewards for completing missions with factions..

...........MORE MYSTERIES!!!!! What about the Exploratory Service? What happened to charting unknown systems, discovering new jumpholes, uncovering ALIEN ARTIFACTS IN OUTER SPACE...

............make bartenders with personality??? EVERY NPC IN THE GAME IS A ROBOT.. Last I remember DA was boasting for 5 years how NPC's will feature LOADS of interaction.

WTF HAPPENED TO THIS GAME? WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF

FIVE YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT.. AND I GET TO PLAY SPACE INVADERS in 3D $@#)(

you need to think of it more as "glass half-full" rather than half-empty. The game has it's flaws, but it is great, none the less. You can't expect DA to get the game perfect on their first try. Not to mention the fact that it was rushed at least a little...

Rushed?

Rushed?

How about Digital Anvil as a pet project will probably be abandoned by microsoft.

If it wasn't already.

Freelancer was not even half-full.

It was not a skeleton.. but rather just a few bones in an ossuary.

I'd still say you were expecting too much from the game in the first place. Look through your list; I'd say that, plus all of the things already in the game, would have been enough to almost fill my hard drive (I may be exxagerating, but..) My point is that you should have never expected so much in the first place. It will take time, and an expantion or sequel to make the game what we want(ed) it to be.

Agreed. But an expansion cannot add these missing game elements that were in privateer/p2. The reason is, that it would essentially create a new game.

Freelancer shocked me.. not by what they included.. but by what they left out.

If we had an expansion that allowed armour upgrades, ITTS upgrades, scanner upgrades, etc etc.. neural net upgrades.. hiring wingmen, and ALL THOSE THINGS that we took for granted would BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE..... it would be an entirely different game now..

I think an expansion, IF it comes out, would simply add new systems.. with new foes, more ships and probably increase the type of random missions... if we're lucky.

I dont think an expansion would go into micromanagement upgrade detail that we so crave...

Unfortunately, that is probably true. It is unlikely for an expansion to add much more than extra ships and systems, and that's assuming an expansion comes out at all. For now, we're just stuck with this.

Come on... look at the bright side... if you keep focusing at all the FLAWS, you will NEVER enjoy any form for movie, game or any other fictional entertainment!

What about a hotkey for Switch to Target - we have a hotkey for the useless hail feature - but not for switch to target?

you must have read the spoiler before exploring..lol

It was not a skeleton.. but rather just a few bones in an ossuary.

thats harsh.. i wouldnt say that. of course no one can say shut you up.. but ist just humans.. humans only see the weakness and not greatness...

if you keep focusing at all the FLAWS, you will NEVER enjoy any form for movie, game or any other fictional entertainment!

very true indeed those who judge by the book without reading the contents are not mature enough.. of course you have judge te box and read the contents.. think positively man.. you may be annoyed because its not the type of game your into..
I've been Reading some of the old archive post and see some interesting topics debated by the mods themselves during the beta testing and you should too.. simply judging is not a good idea.. i was VERY STUNNED to see that Stinger played for 250 hours testing the game... and this gives me great respect to him.. hail to the mighty shinger
argh.. im never gonna get paid.. goodbye a million credits..

There's no doubt that, had DA delivered FL in the state we all wanted it to be in, we'd still find flaws to muck about... BUT the game would be that much more of a finished, polished product, you dig? Less bare-bones, more of what we were promised at E3, and a better title across the board.

Yeah tired of talking to monkeys and robots!... They must have just left it the way they did as a 'teaser' for an expansion or sequel...

I had just heard about the game from a sampler disk. It's not too bad, but it could have been a lot better.

forget the hull breach, what about the FIRE?[!?[!?

If I didn't have to pay-to-play for EVE I think I would get that and not look back. From what I saw from the 1 week I was in for the Beta it is a lot like Freelancer(do what you want, how you want) except it looked better, was bigger, could actually buy cruisers/battleships/large transports and has a working auto-pilot. Hopefully some of those get changed with the new patch coming out(prays for auto-pilot and larger ships).

Well.

DA didn't leave out those features for an Expansion.

DA left them out becuase it was too time consuming (after 5 years?!)

You all can hope and pray for an expansion pack to fix things like..
--adding hire-wingmen feature
--making NPC's more interactive
--adding radar
--adding more modular expansions to ships (further customization)
--including more random mission types to immerse the game
--rewards system
--etc.

You can pray for them.. but they won't happen. Those features are an integral part of the original game dynamics.. and I can bet with 99.9% certainty that they won't change. If they "expanded" those, it would be an entirely different game..

Here is what you CAN expect from an expansion... REALISTICALLY:

--A continuing storyline
--More ships to purchase
--More equipment
--More systems to explore

Basically it will be the same thing, but more of it. if you get what I mean.

As for EVE.. I have to admit, that game is looking like what FreeLancer was promised to be. Why they want 14 bucks a month to play is beyond me. There are too many dorks online.. and too many laggers playing to make the online experience less enjoyable. Until someone fixes this superhighway traffic jams.. (Spam being by far the #1 cause.. the rest is left up to restricted infrastructure)..and everyone goes broadband, I think it's a headache at times to play online.

And then pay money to get that headache.? hem.

DA Had originally conceived a completely different game, with more options. Then Chris Robers left (For one reason or another)

Then Microsoft stepped in and started doing the "This needs to be a little different, so does this, we don't want this in here...It won't port over to our wonderful, PC killing X-Box....Oh what the heck...Rewrite the whole game." tactic.

It's NOT DA's fault, totally...Except if you want to count letting themselves get assimilated by Microsoft...Which I am reserving my opinion on if it's good or bad that they did that....to see if MS lets them survive, or just gets dispursed thru MS corp....

So...DON'T bash the game. They did a great job with what they had...They lost the best dev/designer/guru/etc... they ever had when Chris Roberts departed.

Radar, engine, power plant (supply power to guns) upgrades are all moddable and won't take you more than a few hours to put back into the game. They are all there already even with the appropriate .ini files, but somehow DA didn't bother putting in the last few hours of work and instead gave every ship a default radar, engine and power plant in the initial ship purchase package and left it as that.
