FUTURISTIC CONCEPTS NEEDED!

This post hasn't much to do with Freelancer, but because of the game's nature, it seems to attract a certain kind of audience whose input would be very helpful for me.

I am writing a story entitled Aurora Storm. Its setting centers around THE SOL SYSTEM!!! This is unlike other stories and computer games that generate a generic excuse for not taking place near Earth, such as SLEEPER SHIPS! GREAT, GOOGAMOOGA! WHAT ORIGINALITY HAVE WE? I'd prefer to keep the exact year the story takes place in as vague as possible, but let's say it's more than 500 and less than 1000 years into the future. Humanity has developed "casual spaceflight", i.e., everyone has spaceships and use them regularly to conduct their business or pleasure, like in Star Wars.

What I request of you are concepts; things like:

Enormous factories deep within the bowels of Jupiter which siphon the atmosphere, refine it to produce hydrogen gas, and fuse the atoms in collosal reactors to produce fusion power . Then, this electricity is transported throughout the solar system via microwave radiation and satellites for widespread usage.

Another one might be:

Planets rich in carbon dioxide, such as Mars, have, once again, giant factories which suck up the atmosphere and chemically detach the oxygen. The carbon is then supercompressed in other factories to form diamond, which is shaped appropriately to form ammunition for spacecraft (lasers aren't the only/major weapon)

I wouldn't mind having some possible names of planets (such as Torteris and Crusciendo), people (such as Salkha Yultaz), names of ships and their descriptions, names of space-flung factions or corporations, and so on. Any input you may have may prove very useful.

Dyson sphere...
Or at least a dyson ring..

Most novel writes forgot the power of business and consumer.
For example, everybody was talking about clean cars 20 years back, but guest what, we still run on gasoline. That's the power of business and consumer.

Seat belt and airbag was only accepted when a famous artist got into one lousy accident and died. Power of consumer..

Health and Nutrition sector is growing, medical is dying. Power of consumer.

Read books of futre trends like 'the next Trillion.' and also 'the next billion' and it should give you the idea of what the future behold..

money makes this world go round and money will make the whole universe go round if we get our hands on it...
for planet names try all known gods/demons/spirits/mithical beasts/mithical people/mithical places/etc
these also make great names for big ships and/or stations.

dont forget artificial intelligence stuff. within the next hundred years or so, we ought to see some conscious andriods walking around (really). they would be in every part of the economy and life of humans. there would also be some talk about android rights and such.
and dont forget the menial task robots that to housework and do garbage runs.

besides that, pretty sure that ultrasonic sound would be all over the place (cool stuff), and a lot of... other... things i cant think of now. if i come up with it, i'll be back.

Fake ID:

Back on Earth, energy could be drawn directly from the center of the planet, same for other planets in the system. Solar collectors several square miles in area orbiting the planet could beam down electricity in the form of microwaves. People could be implanted with chips that would allow for instant, global, secure, communications. Of course the asteroids could be mined for ore. The Oort Cloud could be tapped for water. The gas giants mined for, well, gas as you mentioned. You'll have to keep in mind the enormous amounts of radiation being generated by the planets and how you'll protect your miners. Will the mining companies employ robotic crews or use arcane human labor? Tourism would be a big industry. Travels to places like the rings of Saturn would be big for the wealthy. Hotels in orbit around the Earth could provide things like zero-G Honeymoon suites. One of the biggest products produced in outer space would be foam steel, a steel that's as strong and durable as regular steel but due to the lack of gravity it could be produced with only a fraction of the weight. You might even want to consider intersteller hijackers or pirates who raid shipping lines. Cash would be a thing of the past due to the extremes in travel. Your smart card, or implanted chip, would have full access to banking networks throughout the solar system. Genetic engineering and cloning of body organs would allow for life spans of several centuries making accidents the most common cause of death. The future looks good!

They say that married men live longer. It just seems longer[!

star trek said it best. can't remember what episode it was but the ability to make a device to instantly terform a uninhabbital planet or small moon would have some value. But there problem was they couldn't figure out how to make it stable. Imagine to profits you could make off such a thing! Some alien race comes to you asking you for help cuz there world is dying and they need a new one or just wanting to expand there civilization could be a very profitable business. The only thing you would have to do is specify the bomb to the type of world they would want i.e. water land atomosphere things like that my thought would be >cha ching<
steak and shirmp for all!!!
