The AI won't go to cruise and won't fire cruise disrupters unless you try to escape useing the cruise engines. While I admit it is a bit of work to accomplish, you can get some space between you and them, and then hit cruise and escape with your cargo and hide intact.

yeah right ;p.. what happens when your burners are out.. to me it seems ai have unlimited burning capabilities.. i can never outrun them using frieghters..lol

argh.. im never gonna get paid.. goodbye a million credits..

Gotta admitt, I've tried the Dromedar and it seems to be easier to fly than the Humback (and yes, even Rheinland or the Border worlds are no longer a problem). So, yeah, having checked it out, I guess the Dromedar is better.

Hmmm...that with shooting Nomads with that thing still seems a little fishy, I mean, the last mission with all the power generators, etc. You can't shoot torpedos with that thing, neither can you purchase powerful weapons to take down the shield generators (and I had the order ship with max. weapons in order to finish the task). But then again, I did it in one go, so maybe with enough patience it is possible? Did you stay at the edge of the battle, maybe found a week spot? Again, when I played it, even using thruster, crazy turns, engine kills, hit-and-run, etc. I was hit at least a number of times bringing down my shield...I can't imagine that the Dromedar would have had a chance..., but no, I don't want to rule it out, anything is possible?

Okay, anyone tell me they can do that with a Humpback is def. a liar, or a genius, who knows Point is, the Dromedar seems to be the better freighter

Order Agent,

I had already guessed that you had not actually tried a Dromedary before posting the first time. It seems that most of the people who dislike the Dromedary have only compared figures in stead of flying the ships.

In my own opininion, I fought pretty actively during the SP missions. In two of the earlier missions, I found some good hiding/shooting spots (the one with the shipyard with 6 Nomad battleships under construction and the one where you have to steal a Nomad power cell). However, in the last mission I just had to fight.

The first time I completed SP, i used the Anubis (which I guess is the one you refer to as the Order fighter, since it is sold by the Order). The second time I used the Dromedary. Second time was much easier, but I don't know if this was caused by improved ship or improved skills.

Actually, weapon classes of the Order ship and the Dromedary are equal, but the Dromedary has more mounting points. So some of the shield generator missions may in theory be easier in the Dromedary (torpedos don't seem to do much damage in these missions anyway).

If anyone tell you that they have completed SP in a Humbpack, you will at least know that they have modded the game, since Humpback is not available at that time.

Killing the generator is simple hover near the top of a gen and merrily blast away. When you weapons run dry let them recharce and dump mines. They will howe to a highlighted object, Bang zip down they go.

i didnt bother using anubis the second time im playing the game.. i used barracuda.. much more manuverable and when i used anubis i got shot down waaaay too easily.. i dumped that junk.. way too slow...

Hey, just wanted to say 'thanks' to all you cool people who opened my eyes to the Dromedary Freighter (/Fighter). Not only does it have more cargo than the Humpback, but it also rivals with some of the heavier Rheinland fighters (by acquiring the right weapons). What I like particularly about it is that not only can I participate in dog fight, but it also makes the game not that that easy (well, frankly it still overpowers most ships with ease) as when you fly with a Titan/Shield 10/Nomad weopons (a vessel which actually should be the deepest nightmare of the entire Liberty fleet - did anyone try taking it up with the entire army? ). I mean the game becomes awfully boring if there is no challange, and although most fighters in the game don't measure up to the Dromedary, it is not anymore that that simple as with the Nomad weapons (like 2 shots taking down any Liberty or Britonia ship). Besides, I love it 'cause its not such a common vessel amongst the other Sirus patrons, and I feel more like "Han Solo" (who wants to play Luke anyway?) Anyhow, just wanted to say 'thanks' again! Take care!

I've beaten Sabre's in my humpback

last night I had a friend lead me from the Taau systems to planet crete, through outcast space, and I was currently hostile to the outcasts, I spent litterally 20 minutes going full burn and dropping tons of mines while going through their space, it was perhaps the craziest gaming moment I've ever had dont underestimate the survivability of a desperate cargo hauler runing like a girl and dropping a million mines

I must say, going past planet malta when hostile to Outcasts while in a humpback should not be attempted unless you are suitably crazy

Yes, I admit it, I like trading. I am THAT >.< boring...

Ajim: I use the advanced thrusters on my ship, But I agree if you just hold them down and turn and burn you will use up your stuff long before you can get away. And no I have not found the AI to have unlimited thrusters at least not in my gaming experience @150 hrs. Remember the idea is to get space to use the cruise engines and escape.

Did you read my post on how to use the thrusters most effectivley?

Do not just hold them down till they are used up or you will surely die. To get away with it , you must studder your thruster usage to throw off their aim. By doing this the regen rate is good and you shouldn't wind up in the dreaded RED zone on your usage screen.

Here is the part about using the natural terrain to your advantage. Remember use the best mines and fly at objects to make the AI guess where you will go be unpredictable some of them will even bounce off of stuff. Burn your thrusters hard then cut them off and dodge thier incoming fire, then launch some mines and burn again, wash, rinse, repeat. They will eventually give you space to hit the cruise engines.

Try it for yourself and you will see it works as advertised. I have done a lot of hours in trade mode and have encountered a lot of people along the way some nice some not. They usually get the point when you drop a couple of very deadly, very nasty & (Very Expensive) homing mines at them. Go to turret view and let them have a few rounds and then hit the thrusters again and on your way with a few more mines behind to help them get the point.

Just some observations from the edge of space!

Lt. Cmdr. Ajim:

Why would anybody ever run out of thruster power. If you kill your engines before you start using the afterburn you'll accelerate to 200 and can maintain your speed with short bursts on the thruster.
I've gone across entire systems at 200 with weapons live.
If you use lots of mines, your pursuers will have to dodge them and will lose distance. Unless you turn or slow down they can never make up the distance and will eventually break off pursuit.

Haven't tried the Dromedary, but I don't find the Humpy as bad as people are stating. Sure, it does handle like a dog, I don't bother trying to manuever.

I've developed this strategy when doing a run in the Humpy:

1) Click on Waypoint or place you want to dock at
2) Point the Humpy in that direction
3) Goto Turret view and blast away
4) Use the "!" mode in your target box
5) Check distance to targeted Waypoint/Dock, once within 500ish M, press Dock key
6) Use Afterburners if you wish, I usually don't
7) Fire at attacker until they turn away or take shots at multiple targets, they'll peel off. Pay special attention to those firing at you

I haven't gone to the Outer Worlds in the Humpy, but can go anywhere else and survive any attack, so far. I use an All Guns config(no missiles) and one great thing with the Humpy is that you can Spray 'N Pray for longer than you'll likely ever need. Watch your targets though, last night I ended up fighting everyone cops, Rogues, DSE, BH, etc these guys don't know the meaning of Friendly Fire.

Another good freighter dodge tactic goes like this. punch TAB to rev up to full speed.Hold course for a bit till your foes drop behind you to pound you. Hit Z key to kill engines. Turn ship 45 to 90 degrees in a random direction away from your pursurers, then punch both the TAB and the W key together. The result of this will cause you to scream off in a real tight Kunckle turn. Do this a few times and your foes will be far behind you and confused.

What Spaceman said. I do it all the time in my Eagle, whenever I get into a dog-fight, i "powerslide" all over the place and only use the thrusters to change direction.

I must be missing somthing with the "GOTO" command. I keep reading (mostly from those with humpies) about how they use the goto command and fire at the AI ships from turret view!

I thought when you hit "GOTO" Your cruise engines engage and your weapon systems go dead?

I know there is a lag time before you begin to move( Cruise engines charging) and where your weapon systems are still active so you could still shoot. However from the posts it sounds like they are talking about firing while IN cruise mode.

Did I mis-understand or do some of you read it the same way I did?

If you are close enough when you hit dock you do not go into criuse engine mode if you are further away you will. If your ship is in that mode you have nothing but counter measures to drop behind you. You can shoot if in afterburner mode but I have never seen auto pilot in that mode, only cruise mode.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what they really ment as I am always willing to learn a new trick. After all this old dog still hunts!

Just some thoughts from the edge of space!

Pressgod: I don't use the Goto command. I point my Humpy towards the target(trade lane, jump gate, base, etc) and enter Turret view. In Turret view your ship will travel in a straight line(unless it runs into something), so you can shoot away without too much worries on where you're going. While in Turret View you can also adjust your speed or use Afterburners if you want.
