joining my own server thru LAN...

yeah, wat i wanna do is:
1. start flserver.exe, host a game
2.start freelancer.exe, join my own server
3.let my fren join methru LAN and we play together.
i tried with my pc without an active LAN and it dosn't work. cos i can't detect my own server in LAN, can only get to it thru Internet (wat the hell). any solutions?

i got 1 pc and my fren got 1, so how can we play together thru LAN besides this way of doing it (if this way doesn't work)

(I know i posted in a wrong forum but here's where every1 comes and read... sorry Amin. my thread are ignored on other forums)

It could have something to do with firewall.

At home I use PC-Chill, virus program and it has some firewall activated.
And when I run games like FL and BF1942, I cant see any Lan games to connect to, or join.
When I deactive the firewall option, I can then play.

But it might not be your problem, I just wanted to help, you never know :-)

What are the components of your home network? Are you connecting your one machine to a hub or switch? What type of connection do you have to the Internet (dial-up, DSL, cable-modem, satelite link, telepathic)?

When your friend comes over to play, how are the two machines connected?

I had the same problem. I run Windows XP, it may have something to do with XP not creating an ip adress for a network adapter with disconnected media.
Anyway, try this:
1. create a batch file with these lines:

c:
cd\"Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\"
Freelancer.exe -slocalhost:2302

2. Shut down any firewall (if not on internet)
3. Start server
4. Run game

Your server should apear in the multiplayer server list. This means that you can run a multiplayer game on a standalone machine.
I still don't know how to get this going properly behind a firewall (I don't want the game seeing the internet), if anybody has any ideas, please let me know.

Recently, i was playing freelancer at a LAN party. I was hosting the server and playing. At one point the power to the switches went down. At that point, I also got disconnected. For some reason when connecting to yourself via LAN, it needs to go to the hub/switch and then come back. So you shouldn't really worrt, as once our friend is there you will be able to join.

The other way to do it would be to install two network cards and then assign two different IP addresses, eg. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. I have not had a chance to try it, but due to the fact that there would be two different IPs, FLServer should be fooled into thinking that your PC is actually two PCs. Just make sure that you use the same subnet mask if you try it.
