Pirating w/ Freighter?

I'm currently in an anubis (finished SP missions) and looking to start life as a pirate. Would it make sense to pick up a humpback for pirating? the added cargo allows me to hit a few more ships before selling.

Hey, if it makes sense to you and that is they way you want to go, full-speed ahead! You can post in a while how successful it is...

.sig/ A Rhino with level 10 shields? What next, a man in a red shirt?

It works, but not in a humback, unless you just follow some of the pirat patrols. A dromedary or a Clydesdale will do well on freelance pirating but you'll have to use hit and run.

Stop reading this signature, and do something usefull, like playing Freelancer.

So why a Dromeday and not a Humpback? The Humpback has more armor and a higher power rating. The humpback has 1 less gun, but 1 more turret. Is the handling better in Dromeday? Or is the added gun a huge bonus (over an extra turret)?

The humpback has the worst manouverability of all the frieghter classes, so you'll get burned if you try anything flash with it. The Drom' is probably a good choice if you want to try it.

Its possible.... make them chase after you.

I once had 7 Centurions chasing me in a Humpback. Somehow I managed to strafed most of their guns (got lucky once)....and took down 4 of them before the rest fly away. I didn't even touch any shield battery and nanobots....The killer tactic is to fly straight ahead, keep afterburning and strafing (look at the direction of their shots) and launching mines once they align nicely behind you. If you have some powerful mines, this will be pretty cool.... Of course, all the while you need to be shooting them with the turrets.

The drawback is sometimes when you managed to kill them, your ship maybe too far away to tractor their loot....and you cannot chase them if they flee too.
