Jumpholes: lethal or not?

The info on your nav link states that the use of jumpholes is strongly discouraged. Are they lethal, or no different from common jumpgates?

And what's the thing about radiation? Once in a while, I receive a radiation warning, but it seems that there's no damage. Is it a long term damage held inside your savegame or is it easy repairable?

tnx...

jump holes are safe. as for the radiation, there is no long-term affects. the reson you are not seeing any damage is the radiation levels differ and sometimes its not strong enough to damage your ship.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea of building a giant robotic parrot out of melted down coins was a bad idea, I would have one kick a$$ giant robotic parrot.

yeah radiation can be a bitch, you can fix your hull with nanobots but damn when your good guns get damaged they cost a packet and a half to be repaired

like $60K if it's bad

Dude, where's my Super Star Destroyer?

Oh, they don't provoce cancer-like diseases and things? Cool, K-redits always do the trick here.

It looks like I'm always asuming things that aren't there

If the radiation in some places did give u cancer or a third eye,arm or something odd,,, dont u think the cut scenes will be quite weird"????

eg: Trent with a third eye goes to a guy and says, "What ya got for me?", dont u think the guy will pretty much freak out.....

It's a bitch that when u set best paths, they dont include jumpholes that can cut like bout 5 mins of travel...

Post Tue Apr 15, 2003 12:54 pm

only time i find jumpholes lethal is comming out of a cutscene adn an unfriendly had parked weapons plats or are ready to jump u on other side OR

have 5-6 outcasts/hassans on your tail and u dock and it says "DOCK IN USE ENTERING QUE" may as press esc and run your tail off!!

Might have been a bit more interesting if jumpholes did become unstable, even if only for a minute of so. On the other hand it might just have been really annnoying...
As for the 'Dock in use' : blast the hell out of the people in the q! Unfortunately this does not work so well in banks/supermarkets

They could be.
How? In the multiplayer:
Look for a known jump hole (e.g. from Single player) that is shown to you as a unknown object. In this state you CANT enter it!
Then group (F4)(join formation) with a fellow to whom its just a normal jump hole - then let him through it and in the middle of the jump you´ll just be broken into pieces - i tried it with a Titan (Level 10 shield).
(strange till now i dont know why - is it ship bound (i dont think so cause i had a Titan)? It is not level bound - cause my level was higer than his. the only thing different - I didnt know the destination system - i jumped manually (e.g. no shortcut) there and everythin was OK ???.

Weren't there any people deformed by radiation in Total Recall (movie)? Like, one eyed babies and things like that...

I'm halfway through the game, but are there also known diseases?
I recall a movie with 'space herpes' in it

another possibility is that they are completly harmless but as most of your equip is liberty in origin and seing as though liberty monopolizes the jup gate system they wouldn't want u to use naturally occuring versions.

Jumpholes are dangerous.

If you jump more than 20 jumphole in an hour, you will get CANCER!!!

forward this to as many freelancers as you can..

if you forward to :
5 freelancer, you will get minor cancer
10 freelancer, you will get severe cancer
50 freelancer, you will get bone cancer
100 freelancer, you will get brain cancer

who cares if the jumphole is dangerous or not. Just reload if your character dies.... and there's not a clue about your character health in that game, so who cares...

..and I just wonder, where do I buy one of those?...

Post Thu Apr 17, 2003 2:30 am

i dont care... nor do i kno... so if i watch a cutscene and i have 7 arms... or 8000 eyes... (kool)..... then that is just that much easier for me 2 see you and blow you away

Space... it's so.... big..... you can't exactly meet me in a dark allyway either...... so I'll just annihilate you now....... okey dokey?

*good luck and god speed to our troops in Iraq[!*

jumpholes are safe, unless you emerge into a pack of ravening fighters in full-stop mode <grrr>. The "unsafeness" rumor is merely spread by corporate pinheads who only want you to use their official jumpgates, thereby denying you the profitable routes you so richly deserve for being a gutsy, balls-out Freelancer. Don't listen to these slanderous lies.

Radiation WILL nibble away at your guns and ship <think micrometeorite pinholes> and sometimes can cost you big dinero in repair bills, esp as mentioned above, on good guns. That's SYSTEM radiation...

However, if you're flying in a clean system and you get the rads warning, you should poke around a bit and maybe find out just where it's coming from. It could be... profitable :}

"Cardamine, Cardamine, everyone wants Cardamine... dunno why though; it isn't the best run..."

Well I have lost count of the number of times that I've emerged into a pack of enemy fighters coming out of a jumpgate, so jumpholes are probably safer. Anyway, at the moment I'm playing a pirate working with all the criminal factions and everyone else hates me, so I can't take jumpgates, which makes jumpholes the only other option.

Although you still can take jumpgates and trade routes when you play a pirate, its just the large collections of enemy fighters at either end that are a problem.

super moose if you have 8000 eyes you could just call yourself argus a greek god
here's a description:

In Greek mythology, Argus is a giant with a hundred eyes. After Zeus had changed his lover Io into a heifer to protect her from the wrath of Hera, Hera demanded that the cow was given to her. She then charged Argus with the task of guarding it.
Argus was lulled to sleep by Hermes who then killed him, as Zeus had ordered him to do. Hermes brought Io back to Egypt, where she returned to her human form again. After Argus' death, Hera placed his hundred eyes on the tail of the peacock, her favorite animal.
