Pirate Help?

Hi I live in the UK and I got Freelancer when it came out on April 11th and have played on it 15 hours for the three days. I am on the sixth mission so I am quite far into the game, and I was a hero, working for the police, etc.

But I wondered how you became a pirate.

I found a good guide at www.freelancerfan.de but it was in complete German so i couldn't understand it... Said something about killing Xenos?

I started again and because you have to do the first mission you immedietely become hostile with the Rogues!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I managed to find a Junkers Base (Rochester Station) on section D3 of Manhatten (in the debris)

I am neutral with the Junkers, but I can't do any work for them because I am hostile with the Rogues! How can I get on their good side??!

Please help me!!

kill the enemys of the factions you want to be friendly with. xenos are hated by almost everyone.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea of building a giant robotic parrot out of melted down coins was a bad idea, I would have one kick a$$ giant robotic parrot.

How many Xenos will I have to kill? I must've killed about 15 in the debris above Manhatten, but the Liberty Rogues STILL fire at me

You have to kill a lot more than 15. Think hundreds.

Finally (and boy do I mean finally!!) I've become neutral with the Rogues. BUT after I do Missions 2 and 3 I have to take them out, thus becoming their enemy! Not fair!!

And when I get to Bretonia the Gaians are against me as well!! Why do Pirates always hate me??!

It says on the box "Decide your Fate" when its obvious you can only be a hero or merchant. Being a pirate is just solid and although it would be fun if it was a little easier and actually an option at the beginning of the game then you really would have a choice of what to do.

Also I have noticed that you can't use the Jumpholes until you've been to the System it goes to. Huh! It goes "Access Denied". That meagre excuse works with the Jump Gates because you might actually need access codes (pretty tight Universe, huh?) but how come you need "access" to go through Jumpholes???!!! Come on... Its not like you need to explore both ends... so really instead of the Freelancer slogan of: "Be what you want" its more like:

"Be a hero already and make sure you don't go too far because you're not allowed yet and you have to spend hours doing the story missions so you can, but mind: all the bad guys will hate you so you HAVE to be a good guy"

Okay I know I am just getting at Freelancer and I know it is on the whole a fabulous game, but also possesses major balancing flaws.

Please forgive me for my little [cough cough lol moan. I am just a little pisse*.

You don't have to play the SP game, you can host a server on your machine and join it from the same machine if you don't actually want to play multiplayer, and in this way have no storyline missions to get in your way. In this way you can be a pirate from day one, which I find to be great fun but quite a bit more difficult if you're going to be a pure pirate (i.e. place law enforcement and shipping companies firmly into the hostile as it would be if you were really a pirate).

hmm... but when u enter a new area (house) like Bretonia, then the Pirates there hate you because you for some reason are allied with the local police. So therefore every new area you go into you have to spend ages winning over the Pirates.

I recall this being the case in SP due to the storyline missions manipulating your faction ratings, but in MP this is certainly not the case. For instance I just started a new MP character a few days ago, playing him as a pirate from his first launch. When he finally left liberty space (took a while since I refused to do any legit shipping, and no missions for any non-criminal organizations... piracy in a starflier when you can't do missions because the criminals don't like you yet means a kind of slow start)... when he finally left liberty the criminal factions in other systems ran between being on the friendly side of neutral to actually showing up friendly from the get-go.

Hmm... being a Pirate doesn't get you much money though... its faster being a merchant

"its faster being a merchant"

Absolutely. But this isn't a race.
