Flight Controls

Help I am having trouble figuring out these flight controls. I keep getting
the freeflight thing messed up?

Why don't you press the space bar?

Free flight is when the ship flies itself - autopilot, if you will. If you hit space, then it goes to mouse flight, in which you use the mouse to change direction.

I may be alone on this but I have it set up so I steer the ship with the WASD keys and just use the mouse to aim my lazors.....I think it's easier that way....plus I made some other adjustments for the rest of the keys.....plus the left clicker on my mouse is kinda worn out so you have to press hard to make it work so I adjusted.

Dude, why don't you just get a new mouse, they're dirt cheap ya know

actually now I'm used to using the keyboard to stear my ship, and getting pretty good with it....but I'll still get a new mouse eventually

I don't think I'd like using the keyboard to fly. Too many buttons needed to do what one mouse (or better yet, joystick, but I'd better leave that one alone ) can do.

The problem with using the keyboard is that it doesn't measure the extent to which you wish to turn. It's either 'turn', or 'not turn'; in other words, on/off, unlike most analog controls [ie. joysticks, analog gamepads, etc, so it's better to use a mouse to control your ship.....
meanwhile, you can hold down the first mouse button to use temporary mouse flight, instead of using WASD keys....once you let go of mouse button 1, the ship will stay on the same course you leave it, regardless of where you put your cursor....

I can't really imagine using a mouse for this game right now.....guess I got used to using a thumb oriented trackball.....I still get squashed in FPS games, though....

this is a good sign.. i wish more games have this type of controls... especially space sims. ive got 3 joysticks and none last more than 4 months

mostly i find myself holding down the mouse1 through the whole fight, its mainly because i forget to press space bar but it works pretty well
