What happened when I fired backwards...

I got to a part where some badguys that cannot be named were following me. I was flying in the Hawk and forgot that I had just sold my Dromedary. As I pressed V to use my rear guns, I found that trying to do so in that fighter only resulted in my firing my countermeasures behind me. It was semi-effective, but I don't understand if it is a weapon or if it is just taking out missles. Anyone know what this is for?

are you asking about countermeasures? well if thats what you are asking, then all it does is attract missiles. It does not do damage to enemy ships or anything

I didn't know that if you switched to rear view and didn't have a turret to fire backwards it'd drop CM. That's interesting.

and if you fire forward? do you stil drop CM's? I think you clicked on the counter messiur dropper in the weapon selection.

Nope. Try it out. It fires a countermeasure. I didn't have it set to fire them, it just did. Cool, eh? Just FYI.

When I face backwards it doesn't fire a countermeasure unless I have the countermeasure selected. It just fires my turret weapon.

You could press the 'z' key which is basically the slide key, which turns you ship into more of a true space faring vehicle... then you can just turn your ship around and fire at them with all of your guns blazing...

kinda works like the 'Q' key (Slip) in Tachyon: The Fringe.

It doesn't work in fighters with turrets. You've got to believe me. It's weird.

If you're saying the engine kill doesn't work in fighters w/turrets, it sure does. You have to make sure that you aren't in Go To, Dock, or Formation mode, though. Then it won't work. That happened to me a lot before I figured it out...

neup...firing backwards only fire your back turrets, no CM's will be fired unless you selected it...

Ya know..life is a game, a very complex game, the main difference from a computer game is that the game of life has no save reload button...

Let me re-state this...
I'm pretty sure this only works in light fighters or guns without turrets...
While at warp (or whatever it's called) hold down V and fire. It should shoot a countermeasure. That's all I'm saying. I'd go back and check again, but I'm flying to Dresden to pick up a nasty surprise for the Corsairs.
