Bit''s to add to freelancer

Hi there all I've thought of some bits i'd love to see get added to freelancer, some of which i feel should have been included in the great game. I apologise in advance if some have already been mentioned and my bad grammer/spelling!!!

Docking charges for Staions and Planets, doesn't need to be huge amounts just a couple of credits..

Trade Lane charges, No company would ever provide a free service to anyone!!!

Jump Gate Charges, as last comment!!!

Jumpholes, make them more random, say 25% chance they wont work when to try to use it and 0.01% chance you wont turn up in the right place in the system..

Reward for destroying pirates, least for liberty rogues, more for a corsair in a bad ass ship...

Sensible AI, I'm flying through liberty in a kitted titan and a liberty rogue thinks he can take me out, the pirates are sucidile in this game.....

Distress Call Option, this would be great, I mean what the hell are police for you can't call them to help you, plus if the police don't like you they could just ignore you, maybe that will teach you not to smuggle drugs again!!

Option to respond to distress calls, when you help and they survive your rep could increase with that faction....

AI, My major gripe with the AI is that they more than always go for you even when there is loads of other targets....

Turret AI, Freighter's are rubbish without turret AI! Different progs could be available to buy providing more accurate turrets...

The button/option to lock afterburners, this would be very handy especially in freighters...

Speeds of ships... This game is silly when it comes to ship speeds, light fighter's have only one advantage over heavy fighters Manuverability, Make them faster!!!!!

e.g Top Speeds without using afterburner

Light Fighter Top Speed 130

Heavy Fighter Top Speed 110

V.Heavy Fighter Top Speed 100

Freighter Top Speed 80

Roaming military patrols in outer systems, E.g in magellan, kepler, galileo, bering, hudson, cortez etc
Not just fighter's but cruiser's too!

Well i think thats most of my gripes with the game out in the open I'm sure i'll think of more!

I'd love to hear of people's comments and if anyone know's of a address i could send this to Digital Anvil i'd love to know it...

I have a few bits i would like to see.

Name able ships. I want to give my ship a name.

Sell map locations. Mainly for Noobs, so when they ask wheres this or where to get that. i can charge them for the info. And it would make easier to point some one in the right direction.

More ships. im not talking about Tie fighters or Babalon ships but the gun boats and trains that are in the game but cant get.

thats all i can think of for now. Cheers.

I want to see some huge freespace 2 style ships, just so you canb go OMFG!! look at the size of that thing!!!
Also i reckon a good idea (perhaps for a mod) would be to have some way of switching your shields so they can block cruise diruptors while at the same time dropping your normal shields. It would add another level to the game, especially for freighter players as they weigh up the consequences of staying and fighting or making an escape while vulnerable

Wow, yet another "wish Freelancer had this" thread with no new ideas (except for the CD/drop shields thing). They should just make a separate forum for these things, and make a sticky thread that holds all ideas so far.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world:
those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I think i have actually found of a way of escaping cruise disruptor's, i went through a jump hole and was jumped by 7 unioner's so i hit the afterburners to get some space but then hit the cruise engines, as soon as I heard missile incoming i kept my finger on C and i got away. I was using a Adv. Counter Dropper in a Dromedary.

TO Datadroid: Whats wrong did mummy take your toys away? boo hoo
you sad git

What about this fore chance:

1
Level up system like in Diablo 2. Lets say you where lv21 paladin and had 1.200.000 points/credits then next level would be at 2.100.000 points/credits.

2
Max level set to 100.

What I mean, is when you have completed mission one you are told to reace next level. In FL level 2 is around 20k credits rigth? why not 100k instead.

3
choice of person. when you start a new game you can choose: Story mode, Trade, Law, Bounty Hunter, Pirate. Every mode is different:

Story mode - we follow the story as we do now.

Trade mode - we start with a trade ship and some credits, and then we trade for different companies and might buy our own in the end.

Law - you only do Law work like the police or navy, and end up being commander of a squad of figthers.

Bounty Hunter - well you know do what they do.
and so own.

We could maybe use those persons from FL's offical homepage you know.
Ana Bui - Bounthy Hunter
Lt Nigel Gundy - Liberty Police
Don Harris - Independent Merchant
Franklin Roth - Liberty Navy
Red Hessians - Pirates

What do you think guys ?
(sorry my spelling is not that good, but what can I say I'm Danish)

Better Communications System. EXACTLY like STARLANCER but improved, with various things to ask it using numbered button commands

Request Backup: The base sends a wing of fight who form with you and help you within the same system for a set amount of credits

Request Escort: Pay a base, and click a BASE in the BASE LIST where you want to be escorted to, it automatically sets some player waypoints, if you stray one system far from the set path your escorts leave

Register: Allows you to make a checkpoint at the base without docking (when u die u respawn there)

Trade: allows a player to ask what commodities sell best and worst on that base, and how much commodities in his hold would sell there

and various In-System commands, DISTRESS CALL which activates a radar blip for everyone on the system which indicates a stranded player. also, when selecting a ship, you click HAIL button which opens another screen where you can choose the following:

Destination: where their going

Home: Asks them where their trip started at

Waypoints (patrols only): How many checkpoints are left on their patrol path

Designation: Asks a ship who he works for, what he is and what hes doing

Drop Cargo: Opens the ships Cargo Scan screan, where the recycle bin (jettison button) is replaced by a HAIL icon, which you click, then asks how much you want from the ship

Taunt: Select various taunts to send to a ship, each calling for a different and random return such as "Im looking at a dead man" and the reply being "you must be looking in the mirror"

How about some simple communications in mp such as "I'm taking fire"
Come off it, why can't we communicate in the same fashion as everyone else in the game by saying stuff like "engage enemy" it's so simple it's stupid - put it in there.

When you scan a ship with precious cargo as a pirate you could have the option to tell any members of your group to "take him down" or "stand off, his cargo isn't worth pissing on"

God, they could have done so much more with this it's disgusting, the game offers pittins in compares to what you think you are getting.

The game just oozes potential, pity they don't make any use of it, I'll not even bother suggesting anything more because they got their game out onto the shelves with as many holes as their swiss cheese operating systems so they can get on the milk machine and now their happy.

My express thanks to the fools that dumb down these games and remove as much as possible to make it a) faster to hit the shelves and get a return, b) stupid enough so a 2 yr old can play, c) an unfinished product they most likely wont' even patch.

FFS they chose the peskiest, annoying, oldest, crappest codec they could find and said - there you go, now enjoy your game with partial sound, stuttering and bugs that would make baby jesus cry

I think I've had my rant now :/

I'd like to see pvp bounties. Perhaps the ability to post a bounty on someone's head within a particular faction's base. Anyone else friendly enough with that faction to receive a mission could then pick up the mission just like the npc bounty mission. Then the mission comissioner would give you way points to the individuals location. Upon killing him/her you'd be required to tractor in their pod and return it to the base to receive payment for the bounty.

In addition, I'd like to see customizable paint schemes, emblems, nameable ships, equipment that will allow for variable top speeds, acceleration and handling, and for them to fix the tag bug.

Buy a new soundcard...

Post Wed Apr 09, 2003 10:23 pm

I just bought mine two months ago and it's a nice 5.1 card. No other game I've played/movie I've needed to watch or anything I've needed to do has had any problem with it so far, still GOOD SUGGESTION - NOT.

Wouldn't tech support be your dream job...........anytime anyone rings in with a problem relating to anything you get to tell them to go out and buy a new one = PROBLEM SOLVED - YOU GENIOUS. Oh wait, still have the same problem - what do you suggest now. I'm gonna go home and try out 4 different soundcards just to prove a point now......you numbnuts!

Or maybe I won't because it's nothing to do with my soundcard, it has to do with the bloody codecs they chose to run the game with....

Post Wed Apr 09, 2003 11:52 pm

It deffinately needs player owned factions and stations....Say if u own a station another faction can come and raid it and take over that station.. also flyable battleships that would be EVIL

That is not dead which can eternal lie, yet with strange aeons even death may die

Post Thu Apr 10, 2003 1:23 am

My sound works fine on my el'cheapo $20AUD soundcard, with my dodgy speakers, so the problem is yours, not M$'s....

Try re-installing / updating the codec you have to play Freelancer sounds, also try your soundcard's aswell....

Also, your the minority of people having the problem, and seeing as though your playing a M$ game on a M$ platform (OS) you look pretty hypocritical paying them out, grind ure axe somewhere else.

Post Thu Apr 10, 2003 6:23 am

Well let's see, it works fine with my soundcard. And everything in my Freelancer files is the same as yours, so if there is a problem with your sound it must be the card. After all, that's the only thing that's different. And if you want to rant about it go to the tech issues forum for christ's sake.

As far as what I'd add, I'd like to be able to start as a recruit in a faction and have to work your way up in that faction, like you start as a fresh Corsair and have to haul cargo for them until a certain point, then you go pirate some freighters, then kill BH's, then go fight in the Hessian war. Or you can go to other faction's home bases and join them through an initiation type mission.
