I HATE SPOILERS!!!

Ive seen way to many spoiler posted. People giving out sectors and jumpholes and they dont get tagged for a while so I hop in read a few lines then feel angry because I see something that I never knew in a forum that is not supposed to deal with spoilers. Please, if you want to talk about the this planet, that planet, jump hole form to there, this base at this border world, ect. Dicuss it in the SPOILER forum. You may have beat the game and not think much about it but there are those of us who want to explore thing for ourselfs. Let people find them themselves. If I want to know about it Ill check the SPOILER forums.

PS: Sorry for long rant but this has happpened about 20 times in the last week and it really annoys me and lessens the enjoyment of this great game.

Ahmen to that, we are doing our best to keep this forum free of spoilers but it's been like pushing a pile of elephant dung uphill. Hopefully Boscoe's new policy of locking and tagging will keep the forums clean and clear of any future spoiler material.

I don't really run this place but I have an understanding with the people who do.

Kodakmoment,

Do you realize you just spoiled the existence of **EDIT** Planet and a **EDIT** Planet? So for those people who never knew about them, it has now been spoiled because you mentioned them.

I think that is somewhat ironic...

**EDIT - Kodak removed those references, so I have aswell. It's all good...***

The problem is that the term "spoiler" has as many definitions as there are people...

Aaarrrgggg! you are all making my head hurt. Now my sanity is spoiled.

ANyway, just take a quick check of what you have typed before posting it, if you have any doubt that it might contain something that would give away part of the storyline/specific game items then just slap it into the spoiler section.

Warning! Big spoiler follows:

SPOILER

Ok, let's just lay down some Spoiler rules.

Don't mention anything about any of the "secret" systems or advanced weapons or ships. People who only have the demo don't want this stuff spoiled.

While we're at it, don't mention anything about any of the systems or ships or trade runs that are not mentioned in the demo itself. This will protect more people.

Actually, I guess there are some people who haven't played the demo yet either, so don't mention anything about the first two missions.

Oh boy, I just realized that some people may not be aware that there are "missions" in Freelancer, so maybe we should try not to mention that. Let's just agree that it is a space sim called Freelancer that let's you be a pirate, smuggler, hero, etc. All that information is on the box, so that should be ok.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. I guess there are some people who haven't actually seen the box either. It's a pretty cool box, so we probably don't want to ruin it for them. Ok, don't mention the Freelancer box.

You know, now that I think about it, there have GOT to be some people who aren't even aware that Freelancer exists. In which case, giving away the title might be considered a spoiler. Ok, no problem. Please refrain from mentioning the name "Freelancer" in future posts.

Ok, I think that about covers it.

So now that that's out of the way, let's discuss....uh...that...game thing. I would like to know what people think about the...uh...thing...that happens after you...uh....talk to that...person...in that .....uh, place....yeah. And does anyone know what the best....um...object type thing...is for the...er...the...big, metal...uh...thing in the middle of the screen....er....

(All in fun...)

@WapCaplet-There edited.

I just want people that have played this game a lot to think about what they are typing.

The *only* way to avoid spoilers completely is to avoid all discussion. It's hard to have "certain" discussions in "certain" forums without suddenly needing to move the post to the spoiler forum. There will always be the danger that something you didn't want to know about will be revealed even by something that wouldn't even be considered a spoiler by most people. But things like "secret" systems, I will agree, are a little more obvious. However, they aren't really related to the SP story at all. It's a little harder to call them spoilers if they're part of the MP universe, easily found, and contain useful things. If you read the boards, you can't expect to have a totally unspoiled experience with the game, even if it's just a little bit.

If you're looking to see a movie/anime series/etc... NEVER, EVER, EVER read the online reviews for it, on sites like Amazon or Netflix. It's too easy to read right past the *SPOILER* tags and read something like "it's too bad Chracter B dies in the end." Ugh.

Thats why I say, if you absolutely can't stand spoilers, it's best not to read the boards until you beat the game. The game will be more fun that way. And you might as well avoid MP servers as well, because noone has problems with telling you the locations of all the best weapons/ships/systems in a few lines there.

I thought spoilers were getting deleted. Now they're just getting marked!

But I come here for other discussions. Like how to improve the game, whats my best Freelancer experiance, ect. The whole point of having seprate forums is so that people go to the one that suits the topic best. I dont play multiplayer anymore. Havent for weeks. I just cruise around single when I get the chance. I explore every system on my own, which can take a long time but I love it. Ive got 13 systems completly explored with 33 hours played. So I got a lot left and I cant play the game as much as others. So its going to take me another few weeks to finish it. But I dont think I should have to stop browsing these forums for those weeks just because some idiot cant post things in the proper place.

How to improve the game... How to improve weapon balance... A certain advanced class of weapon comes to mind. Oops, spoiler.

Discussion of freelancer experiences... wow, that sure was cool when I found that hidden sys- Oops, spoiler.

See what I mean? What you suggest as "spoiler free" discussion could easily contain spoilers. So, technically, every discussion relating to things not obvious within the first few hours of play should be placed inside the spoiler forum.

Calling anyone who posts something outside of that forum which you didn't know about an idiot for not realizing their favourite experience, or balance suggestion, caused your wonderous state of awe to be tainted, is irresponsible.

I agree that spoilers should be curbed, but I think the current forum setup is just confusing. The spoiler forum is only where you reveal spoilers, right? So where do accomplished players "discuss" the game or talk about "multiplayer" issues? Not in the "discussion" or "multiplayer" forums, surely, because that would expose hapless bystanders to things they might not have known existed!

There IS no forum specified for the purpose of discussion, with no spoiler rules. Maybe there should be one, or maybe the spoiler forum should be changed to something more general: perhaps the "Advanced" or "Elite" forum? An obviously marked place to discuss the game without worrying about ruining it for other people.

"There IS no forum specified for the purpose of discussion, with no spoiler rules."

Accually there are 2 of them, Dicussion and Multiplayer both have warnings at the top.
I was slightly angry when I posted that and I do realize that it kinda says dont say anything at all. I have edited now that Im a little more calm. I just dont want to see sectors or the system a base/object is in. Mention the base, fine. The people that know about it will know what system, the people that dont can go look it up or find out what system its in on their own.

Your idea about an Advanced or Elite discussion forum is very good. Id fully support that idea. Kinda like having no PK in Liberty to protect the low lvl players.

Agreed with WapCaplet and Thrull. Even if there will be elite forum or something like that, all players cannot be equal in their experience and in their advance in exploring space, so, there will bу problem of spoilers _anyway_. I think its better not to read forum at all for the ones who want to complete game on their own. I, myself, did that way.

Ya but when theres a post that states the rule clearly about spoilers in this forum so why post them?? The MODs dont see them for a while sometimes and they can get many unnessesary views . Ive definatly seen a slow down in spoilers tho. (mabey because of this thread) Just a few days ago there were like 10 topics in here that were locked and tagged.
