First of all, it NEVER hurts to try in situations like this. The worst that can happen is they say no and you are in the same position.

However, that being said, I think it is pretty unlikely that MS would replace a "missing" disk. Perhaps if it were damaged or corrupt, but if you are unable to produce the disk, it could be tricky.

You're best bet is to write a letter, and offer to return the box, manual, and store receipt in exchange for a new copy. I would think their main concern would be in verifying that you did purchase the game in the first place. The box, manual and receipt would go a long way toward proving that than if you simply ask them to replace a CD you lost.

So, I say go ahead and try, but you may have to work for it. Also, it could be useful to contact the store you purchased it from. Perhaps they have a gurantee or refund/return policy. It's tricky with software, but you never know...

Well the only reason I was even considering it MS does do it for business titles (or used to) like a 500$ software suite you could get replacement media for 15$ as long as you could produce the license. I'll try your suggestion tho. Thanx

normaly they have to, still why bothering? just make a backup copy.
and a fee of 10-15$ is normal with most software companys, so again why bothering?

ah btw, lost media they will most likly not replaced, but dmg once, cause you have to send normaly the old cd to them (togehter with the fee) and than you get back a new one.

I don't think that you will have success with it. How do you prove that the disc is missing? Do you want to send them a polaroid of an empty spot on your desk that says "Here it was!"?

It could be just a trick to get a second copy for a friend or for yourself in order to sell it. I hope for you that you are lucky and they replace it, but as you see, chances are really bad.

Speaking of this....is it possible to copy Freelancer? I know other games like Age of Empires and Age of Mythology are hard to copy. I usualy like to make copies incase something happens to the original (There are other people living under the same roof as me that don't always take care of things). I went to the tech support for the game and it said that some people were getting errors or it crashed. Anyone tried?

lets just say ages of empires, etc all copy fine (when you know what to do, and how to get rid of those copy protections).

freelancer was out as copy befor even you could buy the game, so figure it out how hard it is

I don´t think there is any common piece of software that you can not copy easy. (except maybe some midage stuff that is about 2-5 years old, cause no one cares anymore about it, so it may be hard to find easy in the net a way to trick the copy protections)

Please note that circumventing the copy-protection is now illegal in most countries! *CLICK*
