ship size question

i just found out about freelancer two days ago and i love it. so i don't really know much about it. here's my question. besides hull capacity, armor, etc. what's the difference between hull sizes? i mean, is there an advantage in using a "light fighter" instead of a "heavy fighter"?

yup.... maneuverability...

VHFs (very heavy fighters) move like a rock, HFs move kinda like a slug, LFs move like little flies, and FRs(freighters) mnove kinda in between, depending on the freighter (i.e. liberty rhino is faster than other freighter, but less cargo)

all in all, eventually u will see the importance of VHFs/HFs, becasue after using one for a little bit, losing 2 extra gun mounts (and possibly a turret, as well as a torp slot) will be too much, and HFs have much better armor/nano-shield capacity/gun capability/cargo than LFs

thanks. so you prefer to use vhf/hf's instead of lf's? or are you saying they are too vulnerable to attacks.

Sadly, VHF's really are superior to anything else in the game. For some reason, DA didn't include the option to upgrade your ship's hull/gun mounts, thus extending the life of any ship through the entire game, and making it more a matter of personal preference than necessity when choosing a ship.

BTW, Freighters actually move even slower than VHF's.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world:
those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Yeah, there are some trade-offs to using a smaller ship instead of a VHF, but they sure don't outweigh the firepower advantage you get. It's too bad they didn't make this a little more of a balanced choice.
