yes it sucks with backwards turret on fighters, just because if you wanna use it you have to go in a straight line which makes you a sitting duck to enemies and that sucks, esp. at high levels.
It also seems kinda wierd to me that with all the high technology in the game you cant program a single gun to track and fire automatically at a target.. hmmm. Yes i know this would throw off the balance and what would theoretically be possible doesnt matter because in the end it's just a game and we wouldnt wanna trivialize it with autofire and surgical manuevering while the player just sits back and does nothing.
Lets be honest here. backwards turrets on fighters and heavy fighters are utterly useless and i never fire em in combat, they may go off on accident once in a while when i am aiming at the edge of the screen =P. and i might once in a while shoot random debris in some nebula if im bored with the backwards cannon.
So here's a solution to this problem that wont throw off game balance and give a small perk to those who go with ships with backward turrets. Let the player pick 1 turret which automatically track and fire at the current target if it is in range but with half the refire rate of the weapon, to simulate the enormous cumputer power it takes to track and fire at a target =O. that will be a good perk for en backwards turreters to teach em fools on the six
