^ bump^

I want as many people as possible to see Apoc's most recent reply to this topic. An perfect example of what is wrong with the world. Get over it dude, you're just another game nerd like the rest of us.

no need to bump something that IS ALREADY on the first page :p

As I said, if you think the flaming here is bad, you don't know squat.

For the record, I never said I was -against- flaming in general. What I am against, are people whose sole purpose here is to flame newbs for every little mistake they make. If the post is already half way down the page, then just let it die, no need to add to the spam. In all honesty, I actually like some of flames in the other forums I go to. They're entertaining, even insightful. But 99% of the flames here have no purpose and sucks up more space and bandwidth than the n00bs.

Well in my own defense for those who post to get the mods to change the location of the particular topic... for something that I would answer that is obviously going to be a spoiler I would prefer the topic to be posted in that particular forum...I don't really mind other posts getting put in the general discussion area... but for spoilers and if people would just do a little searching then I know that they could find just about any answer that they have a question for...I guarentee that 95% of the questions that can be asked have been already as far as hints are concerned. The mods recently added the search function back into the link bar at the tops of the pages... type in a word that you are looking for and it might just come up with a few posts on your particular problem...

I think we just get a little....and I only mean a little tired of answering the same question 40 or 50 times...

Just my .02... take it as you will.

99% of the time I don't mind answering an question whether it be old or new...the 1st time it's asked or the 100th...

Post Mon Apr 07, 2003 6:53 am

nah 40-50 times is ok ... but when someone joins for example the irc channel with the java client, I start these days instead of "hi" with a "use shift-w instead of goto, cya"

the sick is, I have about 25% the right answer befor the question even comes

so lets just say the same questions hundret of times per week get annoying ... REALLY ANNOYING.

its like spam, just worse, cause its never even funny.

I am an IT Security Analyst in an Internal Audit department and we have this sign on the wall that says "Arguing with an Auditor is like wrestling with a pig in mud. After a while, you realize the pig enjoys it."

I think threads like this one can be likened to that statement. I'll let the more perceptive of you figure out the connection. At any rate, I find the thread entertaining and thought I would add my thoughts:

There are three "sticky" messages at the beginning of this forum, very clearly indicating that they should be read by newbies. If someone posts a question that is covered in those messages, then NO I don't think they should be flamed for asking the question, but YES it shows disrespect for the forum and the rest of the people here. Please read those messages. They are not there for decoration.

The other posts that bother me are the unannounced spoilers. I don't flame someone if they post a spoiler, but I do ask them to repost it in the spoiler forum. This is simply because spoilers can wreck the game for some people, some even consider spoilers a form of cheating. Doesn't really matter though, to each their own, but that's why there is a spoiler forum.

So, I agree that we should NOT flame people who post silly questions or inappropriate comments, but I also find it disrespectful when people post a question that is clearly covered in the manual or "sticky" messages, and especially when they post a spoiler. But it's not worth flaming...

Anyway, as always...

Those are my thoughts, not yours, I'm WapCaplet[!

I hate it when I happen upon a spoiler, as well. However, I see no need to flame anyone. How do those questions offend you, Apocalypse? If the question's answer is obvious, don't bother posting at all. As someone else said, the question will only be bumped to the top and you will have added to spam. Yes, I get tired of the same questions over and over, but, that just means that much less I have to read once I see the question. I just move on. I have no problem with the person posting the question. Anyway, isn't bumping the question to the top counterproductive anyway if you hate the question? You've only made sure more people can see it. Asking a question about the game, even if it is an obvious question, doesn't make someone stupid. Lazy, perhaps, but not stupid. Why do you feel the need to make a big deal over those questions? It makes no sense, IMHO.

Thank you,

I've been extremely busy with work so I haven't been around the site for about a week. Neither spoilers in the discussion forum nor flaming are allowed here. And Wap, you are absolutely correct that the stickies are there for a reason. The one I posted about spoilers in this forum doesn't even need to be opened to read. I got sooooo tired of moving 20 odd spoilers a day, that they're now being deleted without notice. Don't know what else to do on this, I can't stand seeing spoilers when I'm not looking for them. Anyway, this thread has run its course, so "click".
