A Lurker Speaks out

After a week of reading posts here I have come to the conclusion that most of you need to power off your computers, step outside, and get a friggin life. I'm not talking about the people who play a lot. I'm talking about each of you freaks that cannot reply to a post without crying about it being in the wrong forum, or how people need to read the manual. If you are so damned smart then you need to learn how to recognize those types of posts and just skip them. People spend more time filtering your crap than actually playing the game.

That being said: to those that post good questions and those that provide good answers, thank you. You've made the game more enjoyable. It's all about having fun, not worrying about some nazi slammming you for asking the wrong question.

Here's a tip, if you really want to control what gets posted then assign someone to edit them all before they make it to the board.

Cygnus.

First off...I agree on one point.

The people that post good questions here, and the people that respond with good answers are a good thing.

However....I do NOT agree with the first comment.

Would this board be very interesting if we all agreed on everything?

We are ALL allowed to have our own opinions...(Not sure about some countries tho...hehe)

Do not flame people for thier opinions if you don't agree.

Just smile and move on...realizing that that topic isn't for you.

Normally I do that...But I just *HAD* to comment.

Also..This might have been better in the "Off Topic" forum

Some threads I can recognize, but there are sometimes idiots posting spoilers in a thread that started innocently, without a warning. I always tell them politely, though. Sometimes I don't even talk to them. I post there just to get the mod's attention.

That said, I take spoilers seriously when I want one, I'll go to the Spoiler Forum. I don't need it shoved in my face. And actually reading forum rules and stickies is not comparable to bending over to nazi rules. It's called courtesy.

"Would this board be very interesting if we all agreed on everything?"

It's not a matter of agreement. My comment was directed at those people that do not even discuss the posters question, mearly slam him for the post in general. I would never ask anyone just just nod their head and move on but if someone has nothing to say about the actual topic then they just need to STFU and move onto the next topic.

"We are ALL allowed to have our own opinions".
Of course we are but that opinon needs to relate to the topic being discussed...not just a soapbox for a bored poster to hop up on.

I tend to agree with you Cyg, but i dont visit this section of the forum often

Post Sun Apr 06, 2003 2:06 am

If you think this is bad you should see some of the other forums i go to.

I do agree with you on the point about people just itching to flame any newbs who stumble in and ask a question without reading the FAQs. All flaming does is bump the post, so don't.

shut the ****up :p

those idiots that are not able to rtfm, post in the right forum, and simply showing an iq of less than 100 deserve to be shot.

What if they lost the manual or didn't get one? Just because they ask a question you've heard several times doesn't make them stupid. What's stupid is slamming someone on a FL forum for asking a question about FL. I agree with Cygnus. If they have a response to the post that doesn't attack the poster, that's fine. Why do people feel the need to attack each other? It's sad.

thankyou rap, you rock, btw the manual is on the cd, in 7 languages -.-

Post Sun Apr 06, 2003 5:41 am

what about the people that check boards from work/school. I might be a gaming geek but i am not such a loser that i bring the manuel/cd to work with me.

besides, forums give a lot more info than any manuel for any game in existance. before you post a sarcastic reply to a new poster, remember that you too once booted up the game for the first time yourself. no one here was born a guru in the game and there are people from many different age groups/backgrounds that play.

if you forums nazi's act at all like this IRL then i truely pity you.

Then, since the manual is on the CD and I FORGOT that fact, am I stupid? I have not had the need to look at the manual since using, thus, had no reason to look on the CD for it, so, I forgot about it. The point of my previous post was to point out that it makes no sense to slam someone for asking a question. It's sad and childish.

maybe you should work on work, your boss would be happy
anyway if you act like this in real life, I pity you ... but you are right a forum gives you much more infos than a manual, thats for what the forum IS THERE. but its not there to replace for lazy ppl the manual, or disagree with me there, and are telling us all we should write the answers for the same questions over and over again cause someone is to lazy/dumb to do a little research (like open game controll options or looking it up in the manual first) before he post?

You make post with a stupid excuise to lazy ppl.
and btw I really really hope that you do not ask manual questions, just cause you did not read it

The only question that I have seen that relates to game control that made any sense, was about assigning/using weapons groups. A subject that is not covered in the manual at all.

Almost all of the other control/command Q's are covered in the manual.

I've seen things like "Use TAB for thrusters" or "F & G repair shields/ship", I mean that is IMHO going too far. A simple "read page/section x of the manual" would/should suffice.

Flaming on public forums is always counter productive, but I saw one poster here, who's very first post was a racially neo-nazi derogatory comment, that had absolutely nothing to do with the game. If some people have an less than perfect IQ regarding their questions, people that reply/comment in such a manner must have a negative IQ (if such a thing exists).

Just my 2 cents.

I wasn't making an excuse for "lazy people." And, I read the manual when I first opened the box, and had no reason to go back to it. My point is that, it serves no purpose to flame someone for asking a question. If they could look it up and don't, why reply to them at all? Why start a fight over it? Just skip the topic. What's worse? Being lazy, or starting fights? Attacking them serves no purpose. Why do people feel the need to flame each other over a simple question? My point isn't that they could have looked it up and didn't. My point is that people get so angry over the question at all. They didn't attack the person viewing the post, so, why does that viewer attack them? Whether they have an easy answer to their question without posting here, it's still sad that someone takes that question as an excuse to flame. In response to your sarcasm toward me, I did not attack you. I do not see a reason for you to attack me. I did not intend any hostility toward you or anyone else. I, merely, do no understand needs of some to attack others over small things. If the question being asked so much makes you mad, do you attack each and every person posting the question or a similar one?

Thank you,
Raptor013

yes, every dumb question gets a flame.
and it seems maybe that you did not noticed, but after the flame I answer, even the dumbest questions.

I wasted already my time with reading the question, a few more seconds to write a few lines to flame (and hope maybe that they get the hint) and to answer (and hope they will not ask again the same question) don´t matter.

if you do not get the purpose of a flame, you seem to have never understand to principle of punish someone for something bad ... and btw a dumb question OFFENDED ME! Those stupid bastards are still humans ... it definatly offend me that they are that dumb.
