Perhaps a dumb question, but how early does the universe open up in SP. I rambled along until about level 8 assuming that jump gates only open up as the SP game unfolds. I thought this because I tried a couple of jump holes and gates earlier and was told I could not access them.

I ask becuase I am a little tired of all the assasination missions and am looking for some lucrative trade routes. Do Rheinland and Kusari space, etc open up at the same time as Bretonia?
