FREELANCER EXPANSION PACK!!!! AAHHH!!

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 12:36 am

Hmmm....

I admit to getting fooled....and I even posted a comment on the Announcement....(Where can I join the possee) but I realized later that I forgot to add a to it>...

Great joke....
However...It's guaranteed.....I think....

Anyway...

It seems that this post has exploded....It was put up less then 12 hours ago...and it's nearing 100 responses....

WTG EB and the Authors....

We shouldn't be sending the possee out after EB...since he's only the messenger....Should be going after the other 2.

hehhehe

Terrible, terrible "joke" IMO. I was really, really excited to see that... I've been waiting for an annoucement like that since I bought Freelancer...

With an April fool's joke, you aren't supposed to dissapoint people. That's just so very, very easy. It shows lack of having a true sense of humor.

It would have been better to post something about Freelancer's multiplayer getting pulled or something due to poor sales. THAT would have been funny. This is not... it's mean.

And stop telling us to not take games seriously... a large part of my entertainment is from video games, and I LOVE it when annoucements like your fake one are made. It just brightens up my whole day... but when I figured out that it was April 1st, I was all depressed again, wishing for a real annoucement.

Bad joke.

At least Jedi Knight 3 isn't a joke... Raven software actually is releasing a game that is fitting to what the gamers demanded to a T - it's gonna rock. Hopefully DA will follow suite...

Oh please. Some of you people seriously need to just sit down, and take a nice deep breath right now.

(edit) Jedi Knight 3 was announced suspiciously close to April 1st by the way...Probably another "bad" joke.

Jk3 is no joke. IGN has announced it officially yesterday (along with adding it to their future games list), and the forums at jediknightii.net are thriving right now, with Raven software employees giving some (minor) details about the game... mainly just talking to modders and collecting feedback. There's screenshots, and a german magazine had like a 16 page spread all about it.

Not a joke. It's been confirmed, and it'd be real bad press for Raven to pull it right about now And also it would have to have been a really, really elaborate joke.

But I still think the freelancer joke was mean...

i found it funny conciding what the star wars galaxies board did to me last year...they MADE ME JAR JAR BINKS!

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 2:34 am

Jar Jar? OMFG, that's brutal! Meesa would sue them for emotional distress.

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 2:42 am

Tasiin, mabye you should sit down and take a deep breath. I mean, you seem to be upset because people complain about a bad joke. I'd say that's at least as strange as complaining about the joke in the first place.

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 3:01 am

I find it amusing that you try to deflect attention to another mistake not made by you, so that people won't mention the faux pas of a really bad attempt at humour.

Its funny if the person being fooled can laugh at themselves afterwards, its not funny if they think "well gee, that sucks..."

Perhaps the lazy humour inherent in the "joke" is the result of too much reality TV, but I could be wrong.

I hate you...in that kind, loving way...Also I kinda believed that post that EB was brutally mobbed...I figured it would be just plain mean if i posted HAHAHAHA EB GOT MOBBED! and it turned out to be true. But i was wrong. Although i wouldnt be surprised if all these people here at TLR did end up going to the point of no self control and did mob you...My advice: Dont post here anymore (for your own safety, not cuz i hate you) and change your address, all your phone numbers, and got a trailer to drag around to different parts of the country. Or just get help from the Witness Protection Program...Theyll put ya somewhere

I think someone made a valid point that other than the date there's really nothing to inidicate to the non-hardcore fan that it's fake.

It's quite easy to imagine someone who loves Freelancer, but isn't really a hardcore gamer (and therefore doesn't visit fan sites or remember every little detail about the game) looking up Freelancer expansion pack in a search engine. He comes upon that news blurb, gets all excited about the expansion, never notices the date on the post, then goes on a fruitless quest to find when it comes out. With archiving search engines a person could come across that post weeks, even months from now.

Assuming that the person really liked the game, how do you think they'll feel when they find out after driving around trying to find the game, bugging the employes at the local game store for a release date, searching for a place to buy it on the web, that they're the butt of an obtuse joke? A little unlikely? Sure I guess so, but enough people here were convinced to make me think there's plenty others out who read the post, never bothered checking the forum and are out there eagerly awaiting what seems to be a very cool and very plausible expansion pack.

Now the follow up post that Boscoe made IS truely funny.

LESSON IN TEH FUNEY:

* George Forman's USB iGrill = teh funey

* Freelancer expansion pack so we have to PAY to fix all the crap we've been griping about, AND won't be released until Christmas = not teh funey.

ADMIT IT YOU FOOLS IT WAS FUNNY nice one Z0p/Tas/EB

Post Wed Apr 02, 2003 5:13 am

I fell for it big time. I felt a BIG fool since I had just been to Natural selection's web site to see their own april fools joke that my friend skipped school to see (he was tricked too). So knowing that this would be happening and reading the main page AND falling for it makes me feel the worst... Damn it! But I guess the expansion pack is still coming, it's just not going to be called an "expansion pack", it'll be called a mod. Nicely done
