Becoming a higher level

Is anyone here higher than level 18 in single player mode? I've already beat the single player storyline and now I want a better ship but I can't get one because I'm only level 18. I'm far beyond the requirement for the next level, is there something I'm doing wrong?

In SP, the number you see for "Next Level Requirement" is actually a count down, not a mark for you to hit. You have to earn that many more credits before the next level. Keep doin missions .

Just so I'm clear on this level requirement thing. I'm Level 18 in SP, and your saying I need to complete a few non-specific missions to reach Level 19? I hope so, cause I've got over 1,000,000 in cash, and I'm not having fun being limited to Level 18. I am too still having fun, but I want to have more fun!

I think the system is that no matter how much money you make in SP during the storyline, you can never go past lvl 18. Once get to the end of the storyline, your lvl will jump up to whatever it would be normally. After that it will go up depending on the money you have and are worth.

Yep, this seems to be how it works...I picked up 'cuda, ran it all over hell cartin' diamonds from Berlin to Tokyo, engine components from Tokyo to London, & gold from London to New Berlin; a rather lucrative ring, as long as you have enough non-enemies. Anway, I got up to around $3 mil, and whatever I was before beginning the final sequence of storyline-missions, I know I ended up jumping straight to level 36 when I finished that sequence.

On a sidenote, it really annoyed the hell out of me that I had all this damned money, and was in the green with all these factions offering to sell the Hammerhead or Falcon, but couldn't buy them because I wasn't a "high enough level" Really ticked me off...would you sell something to some inexperienced person if you could profit off it? I would! 'You don't know how to use dynamite, but you'll pay me alot for it anyway?! Sure! Take as much as you can afford!' Argh...stupid space merchants. hehe

you have a bug. at the end of SP you jump up depending on how much money you have. I jumped from 18 to 26 as soon as I finished the last cut scene from the storyline.

Thats not a bug, your credits just jumped enough for a few levels. Trading is a good way to do this.

Thanks for the helpful tips. I was digging around, and read that the 1.1 server patch causes problems with SP, I was also having trouble getting work from Corsairs and the like, telling to become a more advanced pilot. I reinstalled 1.0, but haven't played yet to see if that corrected my problem. I read that it would.

Thanks everyone.
