Leveling Up In SP

So, I beat the storyline in single player mode, and I want to keep on playing and having a good time leveling up taking harder jobs. The problem is that I'm level 18, and it says that the next level requirement is $40,191, which I am very far past. How can I become a higher level? I want to be a much higher level so I can buy the ships I want!

I'm pretty sure that once you beat the SP part, the next level requirements indicate how much more credits you need to get to go to the next level. (ie. if it says $40k, it means you have to earn another 40k to get to the next level.)

So, you gotta do some trading or do some missions...

That is precisely correct. It is a countdown, instead of a goal to reach.
