Which ship was you favourite in Privateer2?

While playing Freelancer my thoughts went back to the time when I was playing Privateer 2. So, which fighter was your favourite back then, and why did you love that one?

For me, it was the Faldari Mk.II. It had "only" 4 weapon mounts, but with two Craven Mk.V-lasers, it wasn't such a lack. And it was quite small, not much thicker than a Heretic. And, it had two gaps in its wings, and while the enemys were firing at me, most of the shots went through those gaps.

I didn't like those flying "bricks" (can't remember the names though), they were not very manoeuverable and every salve fired at you was a hit, guaranteed!

Hail thee, my metal-brethren[!

didn't really care much for P2 to remember it. But in Privateer, I loved a fully decked out taursus. Also, the galaxy was a fun ship. The Centurion was alot of fun too. Never flew the Orion alot tho, didn't like it.

In Privateer 1, I loved the Centurion fighter..=)

In Privateer 2, I liked the Freij MK II!!

Kickass Ships!!

Heh, gonna have to say I was a fan of Privateer 1 also, but not really 2. In Privateer 1 I really did like the Galaxy, it was (for me) a bit like playing Han Solo flying that thing around! The Centurian did look sweet too. And I agree with the above posting... that Orion was ugly and I flew it very briefly... didn't like it.

On Privateer 2, I'll agree with the original posting. That was a fun ship!

Ah, the days when we used joysticks...

I only played Privateer 1. I liked the Galaxy myself.

I used to mount slightly weaker shields and guns than it would take, and max out the engine. I think I had a level 5 engine and level 3 shields, along with tachyon cannons in the turrets. Anytime I got into a fight, I simply held down the afterburner while sitting in a turret. Afterburner drained energy from guns if you didn't carefully balance your equipment.. I'd chew them apart with the tachyon cannons while they sat parked on my rear - afterburning to keep up, but unable to shoot.

Edit: misremembered the Galaxy as an Orion. My oops. Didn't mind the Orion, mind you, but the Galaxy was the luxury liner of the fleet.

I'd take a Danrik over a Frej MkII any day... a little less armor but it sure as heck beat that flying concrete slab on style.

Privateer 2 is mostly forgotton, but I loved ramming enemy ships with the Centurion in Privateer. Sorta makes ya' miss the old days. Sigh...

Danrik for the looks....Freij MkII for functionality....

Hmm...Privateer 2. I've forgotten most of the ships from that game. Guess I'll just have to reassemble my old computer, reinstall it, and dust off my joystick. However, I do recall a ship that looked a tad bit like a manta ray...or maybe it was that whacky-tobacci affecting me :p

It sure is good to read a post about Privateer 2. It brings back fond memories of the first game that I played to completion. Even though the Danrik was the "top-of-the-line" ship, I found the Freij MkII to be a real powerhouse and that is the ship that I flew. I've thought, many times, about getting another, older computer, just so I could play P2, again. It remains one of my favorites.

Straith all the way baby :p

(for those who don't get the joke the Straith was P2's equivalent of the Starflier).

Actually, though it's a bit on the low end, I love the Heretic cause it looks so damn cool. Though the military version looks even cooler (replaces the side wings with big weapon pods). The Papagod Ecantona is also pretty good among the non-playble ships.

Mandarb I must agree with you that the Fladari MkII also ranks up there with the cooler ships.

Danrik is great, though it's second only to the Aurora in looking like a hovercar instead of a space ship.

Heh, is it obvious that I'm playing through P2 again right now (and liking it better than FL to boot!)?

FreeLancer does have some good qualities, and I'm enjoying it. However, P2 has some things which I've never seen in another flight sim. The first and foremost, in my mind, is the dynamically changing universe. It was interesting to read the bulletin boards and see what was going on here or what was happening there and how the prices of commodities were affected by those planetary events.

Another thing that I liked about P2 is the AI built into the wingmen. As most of you know, the "dedication" of the wingmen was influenced, to a large degree, by how much you were paying them. I never paid a lot for a wingman, and used them mostly as distractions or cannon fodder. One time, I hired one, only to have him bug out on me in the middle of a battle that had suddenly turned ugly. So, I waited, and I waited, and eventually found him, again, on another planet. I eagerly hired him, then waited until we cleared the area of enemy ships. Then, I TARGETED THE SLIMY LITTLE SCUM BAG and took my time killing him!!! Boy, those Roberts brothers sure knew how to build a space sim.
