Barrel Rolling possible?

I figured sense nearly all of the Space Sims before this game, included a way to barrel roll, then it would of been in this game. I mean i know its not that big of a deal, but i used it in games like Tachyon, and Wing Command: Prophect, very often. It was part of my manuevers that i would do to escape weapons fire. Is there a way to barrel roll? I mean am i missing some controls that let you do that? I see the NPCs doing barrel rolls with no problems. Let me know if theres a way, it would rock to be able to do them.

It's in there, but it's not a command you can directly access, you have to manually bind a key to it. There was a thread about it earlier, but I don't remembre where, and I don't have time to go searching for it at the moment, maybe someone else could help you.

There is a way to bind a key to it, but unfortunately I don't remember how and the thread that had the instructions is long gone now. I do remember that it turned out it was impossible to do barrel rolls while in cockpit view, turret view, and also mouse flight I believe, which seems a little weird.

well if there is a way, without hampering normal meneuvers. Please do post it. If anyone else knows and they come by this post, please post it.

Is there a point in doing it? Don't the ships turn in at the same speed in all axes?

is there a point? Well yea, its something that i used excessively in the past with games similar to this. It has some strategic value. If you cant understand why, then well i cant set here and go into a discussion on why. just need to know how to get barrel rolling to work thats all.

No really, why would it be useful?

Can't you just "barrel roll" without changing your roll axis?

Hmm not sure what you mean. Do you know what a barrel roll is? Far as i know i cannot rotate my ship on its Z-axis. I think thats the axis... flying straight, having the wings rotating either way... if that makes sense. Iv seen the discussions about making it work in the older posts. But so far they only seem to apply to the demo.

Yeah the rotation about the Z axis is roll... (X being pitch and Y being yaw)

Although there would be no point... this ain't a WWII sim. In space it's more important to move along the axes (ie. strafe) than to rotation about them. That is, if Newtonian physics apply.

Ok, im not gonna ask or question why it would be useful, i would love to use it, just for the sake of being a idiot or doing the roll as somewhat of a taunt before rittling someone full of holes. I dont care if its useful or not i would love to know how to do it, can someone post on how or post a link to the post on how to do it?

this is what iv found so far... but i have yet to find a .ini editor that will decode the damn files, so that i can start experementing a bit.
Iv tried all of the softwares the cnet has, and non of them will make it so i can read the files and edit them.

i noticed

. Also good news, i managed to reproduce the work thats on that link i gave you guys. I can do a barrel roll! however so far it only works in cockpit view, plus you have to be in freeflight mode. The moment you right click to start mouse flight you can no longer barrel roll. Ill try to work with this for a bit, im not editor, but just because i want this feature bad enough im going to work on it. If anyone that is good with this stuff can help me out, id appreciate it. I have to find the right place to make this work perhaps only when your in mouse fly mode... well ill let you guys know if i come up with anything.
