Looking for wrecks to explore

Will wrecks show up on my targeting scanner or on the NAV map? Will they be labeled as wrecks, or just as ships?
Thanks

Wrecks show up as red X's on your nav map.

They also all have unique names, rather than just "Rogue Bloodhound" and the like.

If you look really hard you can even find the Hispania

Wrecks always show up as red x's if you get close enough, but on your contact list (under the "all" button) sometimes they have unique names, and sometimes they do not. I've seen several that are just "Corsair Fighter" or "Hessian Fighter".

I am always watching my contact list and NAVmap when I am in debris fields and clouds, but I have never yet found a wreck.
Any suggestions?

Make sure your contact list is set to display all contacts, not just important ones. Wrecks don't show up as important contacts. And you must just need to do more exploring to find them, because I assure you they are there! Get out there in and look around, there isn't much else you can do.

Oh, also, go in every bar you can, there are often rumors or people selling info about wrecks. I've found lots from rumors that a ship disappeared in this cloud or that asteroid field.

If a person offers to sell you the location of a wreck (in SP), save the game manually, buy the location, remember where it is on your map, then load it again.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world:
those who understand binary, and those who don't.

DataDroid!! Gasp!! That's cheating!!

But seriously, if you do decide to save your game and re-load it after learning the info, you are hereby prohibited from complaining about the game economics in any way. In fact, people who cheat in the game in any way, or use tricks and cheats to advance quickly, buy the best ship, etc, should not be allowed to complain about the game at all.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have said that. Can of worms and all...

Or maybe I wanted to open that can of worms since, as I have said in another post, I am bored at work and need something to tide me over until I can get home and play for Freelancer.

Can you get stuff from a wreck like these?

Post Mon Mar 31, 2003 8:02 pm

Yeah, that's the whole purpose of them telling you / selling you the info. And do they ever ask so much to tell you that it's going to break your bankroll? I don't think I've seen one that expensive.

Somebody should make a topic in the spoilerforum,...

The were-all-wrecks-are-and-what-you-get-from-them topic!

How do you loot things from the wrecks?

I tried to tractor but nothing happened, then i shoot at the wreck until its health bar was zero and still no loot.

Whats the deal in those?

Some wrecks don't have anything in them(just those generic wrecks like Hessian fighter, Corsiar fighter etc...). If you find a special wreck with a name and it has nothing then likely someone else beat you to it and snaged its equipment.
