Game improvment

I was thinking to myself about all the other Space games out there that work on a Ranking System. I know the game does already have a Ranking system of some sorts. Were you go up in numbers. 38 being the top rating! (Not very imaginative I must say).

But maybe they should have intruduced more than one Ranking System. One being a Military Rank and the other a Trading Rank. Were you could only get the two different types of better ships (Fighters and Traders) as these separate ranks increased. Meaning the Military Rank would not allow you to buy better Trading Ships, and vice versa!

Also they could have done the Missions were you started out as a Rookie Pilot, and on finishing all the Missions were only promoted up one level only. Leaving a very large Milirary Ranking system to work your way through. This would also make you feel like you was somebody, rather than just a number 38 as you worked your way up through the ranking systems. Obviously the Military and Trading ranking system would be much harder to achieve. Making it much harder also to buy better Fighters and Traders. You could have also included many more medals in the game. But these would only be avalable at certain ranks from certain missions in the game, and depending on how well you completed the mission dictated if you got them. Again helping to make you feel as though you really was working your way towards being a "4 Star General".

They could have made the Ranking system just as hard for example as the famous "ELITE" game back in the 80's. After all that was the main thing that made the famous ELITE game last so long. And had you coming back for more months later.

What do you think!

You have the remeber there are two system of ranking. One is your level (based on your net worth) and the other is rep. Rep is not perfect since it's based solely on combat. In the future they should add trading. For instance the more you trade with Junkers the better your rep with them.

They tried this with Earth & Beyond, they had three trees, Trade, Combat and Exploration, it really sucked for the hardcore traders/explorers who never experienced combat when they wanted to level up more advanced defensive skills. I think there should be one tree, and it should incorporate all three, instead of each one individually. My experience with E&B was that my exploration and trade skills were real high, but my combat wasnt, so I could never get the shield skills I needed to survive when I was ambushed by pirates and had to run. Remember, there was never PvP (and to my knowledge E&B is just about dead, and they still hadnt implemented it)

I think this is a great idea. It forces the player to either choose a path to go with or to invest more time to bring both up. It would work great if they had freighters that were capable of mounting the very powerful shields, or make freighters with better shields (thus, defense) than fighters, whose primary goal is offense. Bringing trading into your rep is a good idea too. I don't know how many times I've been caught w/cardamine, but just dock and they suddenly forget you were smuggling. Oh, well. It makes it that much easier to smother myself with money.
