Does FreeLancer support ATI''s TruForm?

Since there's no search functin I cannot search for this question:

Does Freelancer support ATI's TruForm (N-Patches)?

Thanks!

Having never owned an ATI card, I'm just going to make a wild guess here and say yes, I think it does. I'm not sure the application needs to be specifically coded to support it, as I've heard of much older games benefitting from TruForm.

Yah, I thought TruForm works with any game.....

Ya I beleive Truform works with any game that uses Hardware Transform & Lighting. Its just a better method of smoothing out the polygons.

Well, as an owner of an ATI card, no, Trufrom does not work with any old game. The game has to be specifically coded to take advantage of Truform, whether initially or through a patch.

I have no idea if the game supports it though. Truform never really took off, and I think only 5 or 6 games ever used it, so based on that, I doubt FL uses it. Either way, just leave it on all the time. If a game uses it, your all the better; why worry about it.

Ah, well, I had heard it worked with Counter Strike, which is a pretty old game - but it also gets patched a great deal, so I guess TruForm support was added later.

I would say, no. I have two computers, one with an ATI 9700 pro and another with a 32 MB GeForce 2, and aside from the major difference in the space backdrops, the ships look the same.

Yes, please tell us what you mean by differences.

Sorry, I could have added more detail. With my work computer (GeForce 2) I found the back drops and planets looked nice, but flat. Its hard for me to explain, but a couple of years ago I was playing Freespace 2, and while I was playing it I upgraded my video card to the Detonator 2 driver. When I loaded the game again, it was like playing a new game. The driver made the ships look more 3D and the background more dynamic. That is the best way I can describe the differences in the two cards. With the ATI the ships look more metalic, light shines off the hulls better, and suns produce cooler lens flare just to name a few examples. The ATI is also rock solid with no stutters (a problem I had with the demo).

ATi's hardware is more advanced, I believe in terms of image quality. In most games, IQ significantly better than what Nvidia's hardware can create.

Not slamming Nvidia, I think they have great hardware, but I just think ATi has image quality down a great deal more.
