Cloaking technology

Ok, this is a sorta rant for almost all games with sequels. Exactly how many times must we (re) invent cloaking technology?

Look at wing commander. Cloaking tech was available I think to the Kilrathi in episode 2. Do we ever get it as a standard thing? Nope. Same for Starlancer. We get it as soon as you either get good enough to fly a shroud or you reach the mission where you fly the shroud or the enemy torp bomber. So if we are descendents from the people who fled earth and WHO had cloaking tech...and we have it in NPC ships (but we had to reinvent it using alien tech). Why?

It's not exactly your standard issue, especially to a freelancer. Would the cops in Manhatten not get a little confused when ships full of cardamine just started appearing out of nowhere? Besides, if you can cloak what's the point in even playing.

_EXCEPT_ in Freelancer, the Rhinelanders (actually The Order in Rhinelander ships) are doing all sorts of cloaking and decloaking, so why aren't they available through your buddies in the Order?

I don't remember any Order fighters having cloaking devices, but if they did they probably stole them from the Rheinlanders. There would be no point in having one for yourself as most of the population have never seen ships vanishing and appearing before their eyes.

Then who was it that kept popping in on you during the SP storyline? All the sudden someone decloaks and the fur starts to fly... if it was the Rhinelanders where is the cloaking technology now post SP storyline 'victory'? It'd be great if stuff like that was either hidden on an old shipwreck and you could install it on your own ship, or if there were really high level (post SP storyline) missions where you could rediscover the technology and use it.

Just a thought,

Those were Rheinland ships, and I believe it was only used in cutscenes.

Because perhaps sensors have gotten much more sophisticated and therefore your usual cloaking has been rendered useless? The ones that have cloaking now is an entirely new generation of cloaking tech.

The last "base" so i don't give away anything, comes from Liberty and has cloaking.
