New to the game, my thoughts so far...
Hey everyone, I've been reading this message board for a while, getting a sense of the game and all it has to offer. So far I'm having a blast, so I will say overall, I really like this game. Now that that's done, I do have some gripes.
1.) It's highly annoying AND unrealistic that rival factions instantly key on you as soon as you appear in-system. It doesn't matter that half the Liberty Police may be gunning them down, rivals completely ignore them as soon as you show and then make it their mission to grease you.
2.) The lacklustre approach to your ship and it's upgrades. Mostly that all the ships go the same speed, and that missiles are generally useless. Every space combat game has made missiles and torps the real power behind your ship, but in this game they're a complete waste, and they cost and arm and a leg. And all you can do for your engines is buy a more economical thruster..... boring.
3.) The graphics. While the graphics are good, they're hardly a step up from older games like Tachyon or even Freespace 2. And what I really miss from Privateer 2(I'm sorry, I know most hated this game, but I loved it), were the highly stylized planet surface/space station interior graphics. SUre, they were 2D, but they were damn cool.
4.) The economics system. Not a huge issue, but I wish commodity prices were randomized, and shaped by conditions on other planets. Cargo missions would be cool too; again, another step back this games takes to the 7-year old Privateer 2.
That's about all the gripes I have really. Nothing huge, but if they were implemented, they would elevate the game from great to classic. I guess I can't complain though, it's been ages since even a half decent space combat/trading game has come along.
Happy freelancing!
