Is that it? Am I done? The nasty enemy people (careful not to spoil) all went down the plughole. What now? Will I never see Juni and King etc. again? They left it kinda open. I kept wondering what I had to do to get myself back on track. I took a Job (for $2000 - hahaha, when I had over a million in the bank!) because that was what I was told to do at the 'end' of the single player, but having done that, nothing has happened. I assume that all there is left to do is tool around the universe looking for more money to spend on weapons I don't need and ships that can't carry any more stuff than I already have?

Did anyone else feel slightly cheated by the fact that the single player storyline is basically mandatory - because you cant' level-up without completeing the missions, and without levelling up, you can't get any good ships. In fact, you can't even find any of the other systems without the single player missions. It isn;t really that 'free' at all. The jobs at stations are all very similar after a while, and once you have more than $75k in the bank, there is much more money to be made from trading. I mean, what are you going to do? Fly 20 waypoints with a shipment of diamonds for a cool $25,000 profit, or risk your neck shooting at a fully-armed corsair hideout for a measly $5000? I wonder...

As a trader, I was also a bit upset to learn that I can never buy one of those huge Freighters that cruise around inviting you to shoot at them by saying "I hope my shipment of Gold gets a good price". I really wanted to be able to haul 100,000 units of cargo, rather than the pathetic loadings of the tiny freighters available to us. I have enough money to fill about ten humpbacks with diamond, but I can only invest a tiny proportion of my wealth because of the crappy cargo space. Oh well.

Yep, that's it.

There's fancier missions, equipment, and bad guys in extreme border areas.

And I've found one trade run that results in almost $500,000 pure profit in a single (long) trip.

No... i definately didn't. I felt more like a Freelancer who was sucked unwillingly into something that turned out to be bigger than it looked at the first glance. Kinda like Han Solo who just accepts an easy transport run and ends up fighting the Empire with all consequences.

And that's how real life works as well: basically you are free, but you still have duties to fulfill, no matter if you want it or not. So, no... i actually liked that i was forced to do the storyline. It set a realistic mood that wouldn't have kicked in if everyone would have waited for you finishing your own buisness, no matter how long it takes, even though the menace is brooding all over Sirius.

Further it was a balancing decision: the game wouldn't have been the adrenaline pumping fun that it was at times if you could have taken all the time to gain a level 10 ship and only then return to the storyline. They forced you to have ship which isn't too bad but at the same not too good for the following missions.

All of this makes perfect sense and i don't feel cheated at all. Just my 2 cents.

Lev makes sense here....

However...I found myself wanting more.

I paid $50 bucks for this game and I beat it in like 3 days (game time said something around 15 to 18 hours.....)

Granted...I love this game...and have been recommeding it to my co-workers....I just wanted more. Guess I will have to wait for espansions.....I just hope it's not another 5 years......

Only think I DON'T like about the game, is how easy they made it to modify and cheat.

I will say one thing. When the people in Europe are finally able to get the game (legallay)...I think they will be pleased with it..

I was originally looking forward to MoO3....But since the day that was released...I couldn't find it anywhere...so I got Freelancer instead.....

I have since found MoO3.....but I've had it installed for about 2 weeks...and have only played it once......I've been playing FL.

Is it obvious which game I like better?

You should also keep in mind that there are many other games out that also cost a fortune to buy, and are total rubbish! While the game is a bit short lived due to the fact that things do become a bit boring because you just keep repeating the same things over and over again after you've completed the "Game Storyline Missions". It's still value for mony when you compare it against some other games out there for the same price!

I agree with argonus.

I'm actually in a similar situation.

I've been awating the release of MOO3 since I got hooked on MOO2 back in '97 ( I had been awating the release of MOO2 since I had gotten hooked on MOO in '94...go figure )

I have not thus far played MOO3 for any considerable length of time, even though I have had it a week. Despite Freelancer's many faults, the MP is still fun.

I think the last time I tried to play MOO3, I gave up because I couldn't find a way to build colony ships. I mean, christ, you can micro-manage with AI all the hell you want, I can deal with that, but damn man, give me control of my military production.

I'm beginning to think MOO3 will go the way of Star Control 3. Sad.

That's only the storyline you are talking about. The real fun starts after the story. As i already said in another thread: i'm playing this game for over 80 hours now and haven't even touched multiplayer yet. I enjoy the freedom of going anywhere and doing anything i want to it's extend. You want more? Then play more. How many of the beautiful and unique systems have you visited? There are 52. How many bases have you visited and how many of their history infos did you read in order to learn more about the Freelancer universe? There are more than 170 bases to land on. How many jumpholes did you find which enable you to travel between systems without the police controlled jump gates when you are a pirate? There are at least 132 of 'em. Not to speak of derelict vessels to find which sometimes carry unique weapons.

You see, the game has lots to offer, you only must be willing to play it beyond the storyline.

I have to disagree, you have only scratched the surface when the sp campain is over in this univerise! Took another 30 plus hours to find (without cheating) the best ships and weapons! And I stil have not found everything yet! It is a lot more pleasing to stumble upon new items after just exploying the univerise.

seriously.... try replaying the SP in a freighter.... or something to that extent...

and then dont just race through the SP like mad... spend LOTS of time exploring and cruising, not just doing missions...im at over 40 hours, and not even halfway done with the SP....

it's a great and game and while it may not be as free as say morrowind or GTA3, it's definitely very free indeed.... and then hit the MP servers.... build up from a starflier with 2 justice mk1s to a titan...

Remember, on a scale of 1 to Awesome, I'm Totally Great
