Go with the ATI, it only requires 1 slot, the GeForce will likely take two and the GeForce will also likely sound like a vacuum while its cooling system is going...

go with Radeon 9700 pro, 128 mb. I got that, and have no issues whatsoever with it. Runs like a german automobile.

Which aren't that good. The most reliable cars are japanese ones.

Or you could wait for the new Radeon 9800 Pro... but, I think a 9700 will do it quite fine.

The Nvidia is much tooooo loud and much more expensive than a Radeon. At least, here in Europe (Switzerland).. and I meant the price, not the loudness! And they are, I think I can say this, equally fast. The 9800 will be about 30% faster than the Nvidia, from what I heard about first tests.

Get the ATI card im using it and its the best investment I have ever made. Runs sweet as a nut and even if you buy it now its got a LOT of life in it esspecialy since its DX9 ready.

i am running freelancer on a Geforce 4 MX 440, and if that is the only game you'll be playing, i suggest it if you're on a tight budget. and the radeon 9000 is in the same ballpark as this. For those interested i get what seems to be seamless running at 1024x768x32 with all options enabled. (and i am quite sensitive to medium/low framerates.

the new 5600 budget card from nvidia looks good too. prolly be around $300.

or wait until radeon bring out their new line of cards and the 9700's price drops.

Due to my job, I have a 5800 Ultra and I love it!

Oh, sure, the provided heatsink is as noisy as a rice burner with a bad valve train but a quick replacement with a water cooled solution and I was back to running silent.

I absolutely LOVE this card and the Detonator drivers that were included with it are SWEET.

ATI makes a great product, but I was burned badly by ATI with the Radeon 7200 and won't ever support their products again due to their horrible customer service and decided lack of caring.

Whatever you do stay away from all the GeForce MXs and the new 5 series (if you can even find them). The 5800 is fine (but overpriced), the two lower end FX cards are total dogs though. They are slower than the 4ti's they are supposed to replace.

I have a 4ti and have not had any problems with any games at this point, when I do finally replace it, it will probably be with an ATI.

I actually have an older card, namely the Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti 200 (64 mb), but Freelancer runs very smoothly on my rig with all settings maxed out !!

Though I am considering to buy a new card, perhaps the Radeon 9700.

Overclock the 9700 pro and its faster then the Geforce FX. My next card will be ATI thats for sure.
