I''m always new around here?!?!

I''m always new around here?!?!

I have been playing the SP missions for a bit, but am still only level 7. Haven't explored at all outside of Liberty space. Only been to about 4 different systems. Anway, whenever I land on a base and go looking for work, the people always say "Hey stranger, new here?" or something to that effect. This is totally understandable when on a new base, but for some reason they keep saying it no matter how often I return to a base. In fact, everytime I return to Manhatten they still say "I don't know you, first visit?" or whatever. Sure, maybe that particular NPC doesn't know me, but I'm certainly not new. So here are my two questions:

1) Why do they ALWAYS ask if I am new?
2) Why do I always respond that "Yes, I am new" even if I have been to that base several times already?

Does this happen to anyone else?

Happens to everyone. Thinking agreeing that you are new just helps to speed things up a bit. Or maybe Trent just doesn't give a crap and just agrees with them no matter what they say. But sometimes when you go back to a bar you will find the same people and they will reconize you and say things like, "Nice to see you again Trent"

It'd make more sense if they said "We haven't met before, have we?" or something. It seems when they say that, all it means is you've never talked to that individual before. The more you visit a base, however, the more you'll run into the same people, and they will remember you and say something different. Second time is usually something like "We've met before, haven't we?" and the third time is something like "Nice to see you again, Trent!" But anyways, people you're meeting for the first time seem to always start with inferring you're new regardless of how many times you've been at the station - it's only based on if you've met them before.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense now.

I think if you have been to the same base a number of times and someone says "You're new around here, aren't you?", Trent should say "No, aren't YOU new around here? I'll need to see YOUR card!" And if the reputation is no good with that person, Trent could throw the card back in their face and stomp off saying "Sorry pal, I don't want any of your business."

Haha!

I think you can turn those off in the options if you're getting sick of them...

I'd have to agree... just visiting a site gets you nowhere... you've got to talk to folks... then they remember you.
