By using the mouse, we also gained a critical tactical advantage during combat. The mouse interface unties the player weapons from a fixed point in front of the ship -- a concept that is already dated in today's air warfare. In Freelancer, you can shoot anything you can see -- which gives the player a huge advantage and ultimately creates a much more visceral game experience. The gameplay gained a lot by allowing the player to fly in one direction and shoot in another. It allowed us to add elements like strafe and it also opened the player's field of fire dramatically. This departs from the traditional requirement to steer your craft in a direct collision course with the opponent. Freelancer's combat is significantly more tactical than traditional games in this genre.
from this they think this is an advantage havent they heard of hat switchs?????????????????????????????????????
