Are missiles worthwhile?

I've considered building myself a missile-heavy fighter a time or two, but I've never actually done it. I tried using seeking missiles once, but I got pretty poor results. It could be because they were low-level missiles. Even so, I assume the level of the missile will scale in proportion to the level of the ships they're useable on. If that's the case, I'll use the same number of expensive missiles against a VHF as I did when using inexpensive missiles vs. light fighters.

Okay, so is it worth the ammunition cost to rely on a missile system? When using guns, there's no cost for using the guns themselves. Unless missiles are so effective that I will use less bots/bats than I do in a dogfight, I won't save any money that way either. Lastly, it seems that the cost of one missile is less than the money I'll get for any scrap weaponry I tractor in from my defeated opponents. For all these reasons, missiles seem to be completely useless.

Exept for the windstalkers, missieles are worhtless, you better spend the money on mines (or a better booster), not as effective but more practical in a escape.

Only use they have is when you have to destroy a instaltion, but then can better get a torp launcher.

Most people will tell you that they aren't worth the money. And that may be true if you compare the cost to use with guns. But I like the sweeper and slingshot missles. The sweeper will knock out a targets shields completely (level 11 target or lower) with one shot and if you fire them as you approach the target head on they will hit almost every time. The slingshot has been my saving grace a few times when I need to eliminate an enemy quickly. The slingshot will miss pretty frequently if you are tailing an opponent but if you time the shot when the opponent has just let off the afterburners they do a good job hitting the target.

They aren't as reliable as guns and so I use them sparringly but my missles and my razor mines go a long way toward keeping the enemy under control for me. Just the other day I survived a solo fight against 8 dragons by using my razor mines to keep them off my back as I took them out one by one.

I've also gotten into the habit of doing a tractor beam right after a kill to grab all the items while I'm there. It helps when you are in a nebula and the radar isn't working good or when you need some extra sheild batteries in hurry.

Oon-tee-dee!

Missles are VERy wort while.
They are not like previous games with missles.
You have to lead your target somewhat.
I use the Windstalker missles an dthey are great.
They hit 70% of the time if I am behind a target and 98% if the target is coming towards me. (No leading needed in that situation)
Don't lead too much if the object is close as teh missle won't lock.

The cost is high for missles and I usually only use them in a hairy situation.
But sometimes they are needed.
Use them with the use of mines and they make a good combo attack.
