I loved it!
Just finished the SP missions (about 25 hours). I didn't want to express my opinions before I finish at least the story missions, but now that I've seen people trashing the game for all sorts of stupid reasons, I feel compelled to give my thoughts.
I enjoyed every minute of it! I enjoyed the story that kept me guessing, the rush of the final missions that kept me on the edge, the furious combat, the characters, the attention for details, everything.
I'm 26 and I play games since 1983; I played the original Elite, all the Wing Commander Games, the Privateer games, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, Freespace 2 and Starlancer. I honestly think Freelancer is one of the best games I've ever played.
It's not perfect - no game can be everything for everyone - but it's certainly better than anything else I've played recently and it was well worth my money. I know that the developers wanted more, some aspects of the game seem scaled down (why isn't Hispania part of the storyline?), I just hope the game will sell well enough for MS/DA to make an expansion, and FL2, and FL3 -- then ask Chris Roberts to make Freelancer: The Movie
I know I'll be playing it at least for 15 more hours, as I want to explore more of the Kusari and Rhineland systems... heck, I want to discover for myself what happened to Hispania...
