i downloaded the fl data storm and installed it but i dont understand what it does or how to use it

It's a complete system map, containing all solar systems, all bases, all jumpholes and all lootable wrecks. I find it rather useful to track down information given on these boards, but since you can't use it druing playing the game, it's helpfulness is a bit limited.

or set up a notebook with Datastorm, FreelancerDB, Cargo Computer and/or Trading Helper, then use your machine to play the game and the notebook as a navigation computer

You can use it during play.

Just press the ALT+TAB keys and switch between the two programs. It works fine for me.

Things like this should have been in the game (say lev 38=ability to purchase/access to star map). Respect to the program creator

Try this

and using it during play works fine for SP cuz when you minimize the game it pauses, but in MP it just keeps going so be careful if you switch to FLDS...

Dont use cargo computer. It messes up some of the results. It appears to add the average price to the buy price when it figures the sell price for some items.

i just installed V2.0, deleted the mdb file, and ran the program. it starts reading from the freelancer directory then comes up with an error.

Run-time error '5':
Invalid procedure call or argument

any idea what the problem is?

I get the same error.
The file it stops on is goods.ini
