Oh my! Raven1701 has tested games for 5 years! I am so NOT impressed. I've been playing games on computers since '86. So, basically, I have been testing computer games for 17 years.

I also have been a BETA tester for some computer games. Just because I have TESTED some computer games does not make me THE LEADING AUTHORITY on computer games.

You don't like the experience you have had with Freelancer that's fine. I could care less about your personal opinion of Freelancer. That is what it was right? You really didn't give a critical critique of the game. Being a GAME TESTER with 5 YEARS of experience you fell down on the job there Raven1701.

I'm having fun on my PC with the game. Why don't you sell/give away your copy of Freelancer to a MORE deserving person.

Raven1701, how many times do you look at yourself, and blow kisses, in the mirror everyday?

Post Thu Mar 20, 2003 11:28 pm

You designed and sold games, yet you obviously pirated this one going by your words. What kind of a person are you? You're a traitor to everybody in your occupation! How dare you!

And what's the difference whether you explore the sector and play random missions before or after the story ends?

Post Thu Mar 20, 2003 11:29 pm

Raven, every time you post here, you are simply asking for critical responses.

You are not going to convince us of anything, and obviously, we aren't going to convince you. So why don't you get lost and let the rest of us enjoy the game.

Then again, I am quite enjoying responding to your highly intellectual posts.

Raven, let me know if you didn't catch the sarcasm there. I'll explain it to you.

Trolls on gaming forums, for some reason, always claim to have written games or tested them professionally (or both). I believe the reason for this is a lack of self esteem. They don't see value in their own point of view and believe everyone is better and smarter. Because of this lack of self esteem they seek to artificially validate their opinions by falsifying their background.

Raven is a perfect example of this. Unfortunately he's not even entertaining as a troll. His troll efforts lack creativity and bite, and his responses are hackneyed and predictable. So after only minutes of reading this trolling effort I am bored and done with it. It is "ok" and nothing else. In short I'd have to say that his low self-esteem is entirely justified. I'm certainly glad I didn't actually pay money to read this troll post.

BRAVO SAPIENT6.

(sniffle) your post brought tears to my eyes.

Anyone notice this moron bumped his own post, lol. He must like the abuse.

Amazing how out of 250 million sperm this guy was the quickest.

this is a fan site and you obviously aren't a fan... Now its ok to post about flaws in the game. Heck I think player vs player combat sucks in MP. When you just come in here and say "I'm done". No one really gives a flying f*** and a half. lol.

the people who come to forums to learn about the game will get nothing from your post... Do you think someone will read your post and think "ooo, Mr. Gamer (aka Raven) doesn't like this game and since raven is the God of Gaming Goodness, this game must be horrible." Besides, when most people want to learn about games they read reviews... what a concept. Because good game or bad, reviewers don't say "well, I played FL and I don't like it so I quit".

Now lets pick appart some of the brilliant things raven has said.

here are some of my favorites :
"I never said I did not like the game."
***Thats exactly what you've said.

"I have made computer games for a main stream company..."
***Then we find out by "made computer games" you really were just a play tester. An average joe hired to play a game as an average joe and say what he thinks. That really didn't help strengthen your validity as some sort of gaming expert.

"Oh I forgot this is the love the game or get out forum. Ok all you teenagers have at it."
*** It's funny that you are making calling people teenagers as an insult when you post such brilliant lines as "Just got done with the game, will stop playing now, there is no point to play on just to find things and have the same missions over and over and get better weapons?". JESUS H. CHRIST, lets try putting a period in here or there. My seven year old niece does a hell of a lot better than that. I was going to cut you some slack. I mean, maybe english isn't your first language, but then I noticed you said something about the game being $50. Maybe I'm mistaken, but that was probably $50 american... most likely making you're an american and most americans, raven as an exception of course, seem to speak, read, and write coherent english.

FL does have a lot of problems. Agreed. I'm actually modding the game instead of being a sniveling troll though.

So my critique of Raven's posts - Boo. Worthless.

What are you complaining about, Raven?? The fun factor in this game is sKy hiigh and you played thru it for free - or at least you said you didn't give 'those guys' any money. So what's the problem - move on to another free game

Confused; defused

Well, the question isn't really as to wether or not he's written games. But Raven, did you write any GOOD games? Judging from your posts, I would guess that maybe you helped a bit on a remake of PONG, or maybe even something as advanced as Dig-Dug.

I'm not normally this hostile, but topics like this are simply pure SPAM. And I hate SPAM. Waste of perfectly good bandwidth...

Come on over to the Dark Side y'all...it'll be a hoot[!

I'm always confused when I read these posts. I'll admit, this game isn't for everyone. And that's fine - games SHOULDN'T be for everyone. But to blow through this game, say it's done, and then say how disappointed you are seems...well...silly.

Granted, I would have done some things differently. (For example, I probably would have made it much harder to advance to the next mission requirement...like at least 50,000 credits each time), but sheesh - I'm 26 hours into the game, and I JUST finished mission 3 and am having one heck of a time playing the game.

I tend to agree that once I'm done with the SP game, I'll lose a lot of incentive to play. Which is why I'm using the SP missions as an incentive rather than doing them all at once.

My strategy is simply this. For every story mission I take, I THOROUGHLY explore at least one entire system (either related or unrelated - just depends where I haven't been before). That means landing on all the bases (that I can without switchng alliances...don't like to attack my own forces and such), reading all the information about everything, reading all the news stories, talking to all the people, picking up cargo and taking a mission each time I leave a base, sweeping all the asteroid fields/nebulas for hidden objects/bases/ships,etc. Exploring a whole system can take HOURS, and it really gives me a sense of accomplishment to chart them and have all the info. in my map for future use. In fact, as the game progresses I may start doing more than one system before each story mission.

Anyways, my point is, if you really do the game as gradually as I think it is meant to go, it will take a LONG time and you'll tease yourself with what happens next in the story while you're exploring the other systems and readying yourself for the next "chapter." Reading the supplemental materials also REALLY deepens the universe for you and fills in the gaps/questions. IMO, if you speed through the campaign you're missing most of the atmosphere!

Like I said, there are plenty of people who this won't appeal to, and that's fine, BUT...if that's the case, this isn't the game for you. There are plenty of space sims out there that will better suit your tastes. I'll be the first to admit I have a very meticulous and detail-oriented personality, and this game really appeals to that (for example, I have no problem with taking a half hour to do a search pattern through an asteroid field with my sensors set to see everything looking for hidden objects).

Anyways, just my opinion, but people looking for JUST a campaign will be sorely disappointed with this game, and people looking for a LOT to do and who ENJOY taking the time to do it will be blown away by just how much there is in this game! It's actually pretty ironic. Depending on one's personality, there's either very little or a TON to do!

Anyway, rant over - just my thoughts!
Shaun

Sorry guys but you mentioned that this guy gave no money for the game, so he has no rights to complain.

Well you could not be further from the truth! If you have a person who payed nothing for the game, but still slags it off! I would say his comments are more valid than a persons comments who payed for the game,

Because a persons comments who payed for the game, might be based on the fact that he feels he has just wasted £40. On the other hand if a person did not pay for the game, he has no reason to moan about it. So if he does call the game ****e! Obviously he has based that on the game itself, and not on the fact that he feels he has just wasted £40. Think about people!

People who test games for Computer Magazines for a living. Do "NOT" pay for the games. They are given them for Free! So are you saying all these Computer Mags also have no right to slag a game off because they were given the game for free! Should all these Mags tell us all that every single game released is the best yet, go and buy it!

Simply because they got the game for Free. Come on guys wake up and smell the roses please. Thats why they are given the games for Free in the first place, so they will have an un-bios view of the game. Based on the fact that its stands them at no cost.

I know this is a Freelancer Fans Forum. But the bottom line is:

1. The game is over way to fast. and is to easy!
2. And the Multiplayer sucks harder than I can suck a Tennis Ball through a Straw. And thats being kind!
