Missions I''d like to see. Any others?

Ok, first of all, I haven't played nearly as much of the game as it sounds like the rest of you have. I played the demo until I reached a high enough level to get kicked, and I only bought the game 3 days ago and haven't logged many hours. But, I think I have gotten a general idea of the different types of missions available, and thought I would post some of my wishes for types of missions that should have been included, and could possibly be included in future mods, add-ons, etc.

Having said that, perhaps some of these mission types already exist and I just haven't seen them yet. Let me know.

Here's my ideas:

- Personnel transport: similar to the job that Han and Chewie took in Mos Eisley to transport some old guy and his whiney companion to Alderaan. Could be fun to have to "smuggle" a secret agent onto an enemy's base, or provide safe transport of a dignitary to a planet.

- Cargo or equipment search: mission would require you to search for a particular artifact or peice of equipment in a debris field or something. Of course you have to fend off any attackers and make it back safely with the object.

- Message delivery: an important message must be delivered to so-and-so on such-and-such a base/planet/ship/etc.

- Courier service: similar to message delivery, but would involve a package of some sort and would have a time requirement on it. Perhaps the time it takes would reflect how much you get paid (Faster = More Credits).

- Recon: required to scout out a particular location or base for any particular faction. You would have to scout the location, gather the information, then return to the original person and deliver the info. Maybe more info = more credits, but that could be too ambigous to code.

Anyway, those are some of my ideas. Again, let me know if any of these missions already exist and what you think of my ideas. As far as I know (and again, I haven't played much) the only types of missions are kill a bunch of ships, or kill a certain person, or escort someone somewhere. Are there others?

Cheers!
Wap

For the sake of randomness ..

Ambush: You must draw a very large force out of hiding .. You are to run in and make a hit, draw their attention - then pull out. You lead the pursuers into an ambush where a sufficiently large group of allies are waiting to pounce, then take out the hostiles in a massive firefight. These missions should be held in or near dense debris fields of some kind or another.

More to do with Bounty Hunters...I really love that aspect.

I would love to be able to go to a bar, and log into the job board machine, and check out the bounties on local and system wide criminals being searched for. It would list the target/s, the company that put out the bounty, the price on his/her/their head, where to return for the bounty prize, the last known location, outlaw groups he is affiliated with and where he tends to operate out of like system.

Jack Skellington-
Deep Space Engineering -
Battleship Yukon
$6,500
Nago Station
Outcasts
Honshu/Sigma19

Something like that would appear as the job description, that would make hunting bounties a lot more likely. Or perhaps have your personal log interact with a bounty log so after some exploring, say you've killed 20 enemy pilots in various locations. You could log into the bounty hunter database and find out if any of them had bounties on their heard and where you need to go to collect that money.

As far as i know there is nothing like an escort mission. The only sort of mission i have seen is "go and kill everything you find / go and kill that bad guy and his friends", with the weapons platform/base hardware variation. I agree with all the posts demanding more random mission types.

I wonder if it would be possible to add quest-like things. Let's suposse there is a guy (npc) in a base that is looking to hire a Han-solo style pilot (you ) to rescue someone from a prison-base. The mission would have some sub-missions to solve, the reward could be an unique artifact or whatever. Supose a mission where you have to beat a battleship, or disable it and board it to capture someone or something. This would need a group of players to join and form a squad. Fun!.
These quests would have a timer so a player can solve them once a month or even once in a char life. The real question beyond the above said is this: ¿Shall it be possible for us, fans, to expand the Freelancer universe, and create our own quests? ¿Add our own planetary systems? ¿New bases? ¿Make the universe "more infinite"?

All bases, planets and stars i have found belong to a type, so it seems the DA team could add new star systems quite easily (a giant red star, a oceanic planet, a base of type Alabama, paint an asteroid field here with a brush). Now you link the new system placing a new jump hole somewhere in the known space. Great, now the universe seems unlimited. Give us an editor to create new systems please =). And implement a way to write quests please!. Ah, and all the rpg stuff said somewhere in the forum is very welcome too. If i ever see all this put together then i will be at last found the very best sci-fi game.
