A couple of questions

I'm a good way into the game, and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, how do you mine? The only way I have found is to fly few a few very rare spots that I identify as mineable on the map and shoot the smallest rocks that come flying towards me, which occasionally contain commodities. Is this the only way to do it, or is there a better way? It seems silly to call that "Mining"
Secondly, I'm wondering if there is any way to make peace with groups of terrorists, pirates etc. who hate you. You can increase your rep with groups by taking missions with them I know, but what about groups that start out hating you and can't give you missions? Is there a way or are you stuck being enemies?
Thanks

I remembered another question. Can you refit captured equipment to your ship? The only way I can find to do so is to sell it then buy it back from the place I sold it to. That seems stupid, I figure there must surely be a way to fit it, but I can't find it.
Thanks

I can answer all three questions for you:

1. Yes, I believe that is the only way to mine in the game (though this is just an assumption on my part). I think some fields will give you more commodities than others from shooting the rocks depending on how depleted the fields are.

2. *POSSIBLE SPOILER* You CAN make peace with anyone in the game. Look at your reputation display for the groups and pull up the group you want to make peace with. Take a look at their enemies list. Unless you can find someone to bribe (which seems impossible if you're blood enemies with a group), the only way is to start taking out their enemies. If you do this enough, you'll eventually earn neutral status and can land on their bases/etc. With slightly above neutral, you'll be able to take missions from them and such. One thing - I did this once (in the demo making peace with the Rogues to land on their base), and it literally takes a few hours to get your reputation up with them. It does work though. Just be careful. It's very easy to piss off everyone BUT the group your'e trying to get in good with. ;o)

3. Yes, you can mount weapons you find. You have to be at a base/planet to do it and landed. Go to the weapons/equipment dealer, and in that menu screen highight a slot you want to unoccupy. Then just click the little "locked" icon in the upper left corner (as I remember it, it's blue) of the weapon to unmount it. Scroll down to the weapon you want to mount, and click this same type of icon ("unlocked" and it'll mount in the free weapon slot.

Hope this helps!

Firstly, to the best of my knowledge, that is the only way to mine. As for factions, learn who their enemies are and kill them 'till they are neutral with you, then you can take missions from them. In order to mount captured equipment, go to to the equipment room on any base and there will be a symbol in the top left of the weapon. Click that to unmount and mount weapons if you have the hardpoints to support them.

Thank you,
