What benefits do Levels get you?

I am wondersing if when I level up I get anything more than simply the ability to pilot more ships and better equipment. Doesn't do anything else it seems, though it DOES seem to make npc's tougher.

Any thoughts?

From my experiences it just allows you to use better equipment and ships like you said. In SP some levels trigger storyline missions and you can't get up another level until you do the mission.

Hellalive rules!

So must i return to do those missions in a set time? I'd really rather build up some coin in the trade game, and I need to work on my rep a bit and kill some Xenons (or whatever they are called) so the outcats, junkers and rogues don't come on a frenzy evertime I exit a station. I simply can't get anywhere w/0 getting pummeled.

So can I wait on the next mission then, or must I rush to it for some reason?

Thanks

any help?

Should I rush to go to the next sp quest mission, or can I dwadle about as long as I wish and get back to it with no issues?

Thanks

You can choose when you want to continue the SP.
No issues when waiting long before going to Juni for the next mission.

No rush from my experience. There are only a few limitations:

*SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING*

1. You won't be able to buy certain weapons/equipment/ships until you level up, and that does require you do some storyline missions. If you're okay with not buying ships/weapons beyond your level, you can still make as much money as you want.

2. Juni will wait. For the second story mission I met her and declined her, and she waited for quite a while I explored/made money/upgraded myself. I assume (gonna try it this time) she'll also wait if you simply don't go back until you're ready as well, but I don't know for sure (I always make a separate save just in case).

3. You'll be restricted where you can go. Following the storyline opens up new jump gates and such for you, and you can't access these until you do some story missions. However, again, you seem to be able to play as much as you like in the areas you do have access to.

I'm taking my time, exploring, reading up on everything, and just having a good time (played for many hours and have only gotten past mission 2 in the storyline). If that's what you want to do, go for it - you won't regret it.

Hope this helps!

That's JUST what I want to do. I only recently finished the quest to research station willard (I think 3rd Q) and I'm still stuck in NY but I have a ton I want to do before moving on.

I want to make some money just trading, but need to work on faction with the outlaw types, cause they are making my life hell.

I want to mine a bit, just float about in the rubble and see what I get

I want to see what missions I can find that are NOT hunt and kill types. Found one that was to locate a lost ILP pilate ship but didnt have the coin to take it.

Once I up my purse, then I'll upgrade weapons and ship type (want to get to rochester base to get that Dagger), then I'd like to move on.

Nice to know there are no issues to do so, been playing 4 days and only level 7. Like the challenge and enjoying it much. No need to rush

Thanks

Careful, the single player story will yank around your reputation a few times as you progress through it, so don't get too attached to your alliances

I just finished the SP story. For the first couple of story missions I hustled to link up with Juni as soon as I leveled up and she called. I made it through those missions but it was tough because I wasn't very well equipped and I didn't have extra cash for repairs on the way. (Quite often on the story missions once you get going you may not get a chance to repair/refill at all.)

So I just started doing trading / hunting missions and ignored her until I was ready. I think that before one story mission the game finally stopped me from taking any new missions. Otherwise I just finally got bored / ready and went to meet her.

Before you link up with her, make sure that you have:
- cash
- full load of nanabots, batteries, missles, mines, etc
- just about the best gear available at your level

Well now I am in Leeds and I tried to go to New London and BAM I get pounced by Junkers and Outcast and Mollys...sigh

Ok, ANY idea how I can improve my standing with those guys? I avoided pounding the Xeno's in Liberty cause I was told not to bother worrying bout factions, but now all Liberty hates me AND this red negative faction has followed me.

Any Xenos in the Bret system? I cant get back to Liberty as of now...

Thanks

The game balance urges you to take the SP missions. This is the worst part of Freelancer. This aspect of the game knocks it down from a 4 star game to a 3 star game. Just wait, the computer magazines are about to destroy all the hype that proceeded this games release. That being said. There isn't one benefit that you get from leveling up other than the abitly to get better ships and equipment. TOTALLY ABSURD! The game is a coaster after the first week. Enyoy it while you can.

While I appreciate and respect your comments, I was really looking for solutions to my circumstance WHILE I am enjoying ;P

I really didn't ask for a gripe as it doens't help solve my problem.

Anyway, hope you have a pc store nearby that takes in used games for credit towards new ones. I do, so I usually don't mind a 2 week affair. I get bored, I trade in for 50% value and figure the other 50% was earned by the time I played.

Anyways, onto my problem, anyone out there still in love with FL have any suggestions???

Thanks!

Suggestion? Suck it up and stop being such a candy-ass?

I dunno, I just fought through the corsairs, etc. I think, given the circumstances, you just gotta take your knocks.

If travelling is extremely dangerous, don't travel so much and take missions in one area. Since missions often set everybody en route to neutral, then sometimes they're LESS dangerous.

Honostly - I would try playing a bit more missions, might do wonders with your outlaw reputation!
